Highfox Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) He's good. deffo talanted, great video and editing skills as well. Too cheesey for me but sure the teenie girls love it. Edited May 1, 2016 by Highfox Quote
RhysP Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 It sounded really disjointed & artificial to me so pretty much unlistenable after about 30 seconds. Quote
Roland Rock Posted May 1, 2016 Author Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) Disjointed and artificial can be a good thing, but then I'm into glitchy electronica. This is a bit muso-fusion for my tastes, but I'm pretty bowled over at how multi talented this guy is. Edited May 1, 2016 by Roland Rock Quote
rushbo Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Very talented guy, but the groove has been processed right out of the tune. Quite a lot of that sounded a bit like a fight in a music shop. Quote
Dan Dare Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Clever, compressed to death machine music. No doubt he'll do well making commercial jingles Quote
M@23 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Even if you don't like it. He's undeniably an extremely talented musician. Quote
ambient Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 He's immensely talented, a natural musician. I think he was studying at the Royal college of music. He's also now playing for Grammy award winning Snarky Puppy. Quote
Bilbo Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Can't deny the talent but I find it unlistenable. Hate the affected voice and choice of material (turd polishing?). Talented but misdirected, IMHO. Quote
Rich Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 I'm not wild about it, I have to admit. But THIS is brilliant (IMO obvs): Quote
Bilbo Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Nope. Cloying. Not his fault I don't like it. He is a talented guy. I just don't think he has found himself yet. Quote

Excellent musician. http://youtu.be/zua831utwMM Quote
neilp Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Astounding technician. Musician? Not sure.... Don't think he's really got the point. Give him time I guess Quote

The god-like Martin Taylor referred to young Jacob as "the most incredible musician on planet earth at the moment", so he must be doing something right Quote
bubinga5 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Hes excellent, but i can't help thinking he's not really thinking about the song, but more of his technical ability as a showcase.. He ruined PYT imo. Its just empty. Quote

He got a gig with Snarky Puppy. Quote
bubinga5 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Well i can't argue with that. His musical ability isn't in doubt, i just don't like the way he's put the music together. But if Micheal League likes him who am i to talk sh*t. Quote

leftybassman392 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Not really my thing either, but undeniably impressive technically. These look like showcase pieces to me - letting the world know he's out there. Seems to have worked too by the sound of it. Good luck to him; a talent like that needs a home. Quote
RhysP Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 It reminds me of the multitracked jingles Kenny Everett used to make many years ago. Quote
ambient Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 If you look on Youtube there are quite a few videos of him playing 'normally'. There's a nice one here with the WDR big band. I'm not a Stevie Wonder fan, but this is quite a cool arrangement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdGszmpQMd8 Quote
Roland Rock Posted May 2, 2016 Author Posted May 2, 2016 Just spotted another thread about him on BC - oops! Anyway, it links to a glowing live review and this sentence seems to sum up the feedback on this thread pretty well... "One day Collier will cotton on to the telling power of simplicity. When that happens he will be really something" Quote

I love Falsetto but i would like to hear( which I'm getting snippets of), him sing lower in the range. but yep. he's great. what an accomplished jazz pianist he is.
