thebuckets
Hi there thinking of blowing all my money on this bass and just wanted a few expert opinions before I do. its an AVRI 63 p Bass in 3TS looks Gen its just that in the knocks its taken the finish seems to have chipped like a poly finish. I thought these were nitro and I would expect it to wear rather than chip/flake. If anyone has experience with the AVRI series or nitro and could shed some light on wether this looks normal it'd be much appreciated. also is there a definitive way to tell if its an AVRI (neck pocket stamp etc) as apposed to a neck on a generic body. Terrible that im so suspicious but its not a BCer so Im naturally worrried! photos at https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3WmgaM02Z49aVVGOERiSVE3YkU thanks all Bri
JapanAxe
I have a 63 AVRI Precision and all the details in the pics match mine (except the finish - mine is faded Sonic Blue). Mine has picked up one chip on the lower horn from a falling jack plug. There was a Dakota Red example sold through BC last year that had wear similar to the one in the pic. Hope that helps. Chiliwailer
I thought these were nitro and I would expect it to wear rather than chip/flake.
Nitro is generally a softer less durable finish, so will chip and flake much easier than poly if it takes a knock. You're right in that it will wear quicker from friction than poly, but can chip too. Nice bass to blow all your cash on Edited May 1, 2016 by Chiliwailer
bakerster135
My 62 AVRI Jazz has a couple of similar chips, and that's nitro. Also, the V prefix on the neck plate serial number checks out. Guess that could be a replacement, but quite unlikely!
