Seriously tho what can you actually do with that? Two strings is pushing it but what can you do on one string?

There's quite a lot of single string basses about. I used to own this Atlansia Solitaire:

And there's at least one other Basschat member with a one string bass.

The vast majority of songs I was playing during my time with a classic rock covers band could have been done on a 2-string bass (E and A). I even used the Altansia Solitaire for a couple of songs with them once.

Stig Pedersen of DAD manages pretty well with just a 2-string:

Yes that's two strings, but one string is a bit pointless

I knew it would be slapping I just knew it turned and it off literally 10 seconds in. The beef I have with slapping is, while I find it very cool when done well and appropriately it gets boring real quick it's actually banned in my house no really ask any bc member who has tried it here, so slapping on one string over and over is going to make me violent.

I'm still of the opinion that one string is utterly pointless and a waste of effort. Two strings you can make work although why make things harder for yourself I don't know.

What next basses with more than 4 strings!?

Not if you're in Status Quo.

Seriously though, I think it would be a very good exercise. It would certainly focus the mind, stop you from automatically playing what you usually play from muscle memory and make you think hard about note choice and placement.

Nothing to stop you from being very groovy either, that is if you're very groovy anyway...
