Guest McBass
Long shot, but does anyone know of a DAW plug in that'll make and electric bass sound remotely like an upright? My hands won't handle an upright due to tendonitis.
ambient
Why not use a keyboard and a VST. The one's in Logic for instance are very good. Just remember to think upright.

lowdown
Plenty of good (excellent) sample library patches out there, but if you don't fancy the keyboard route, why not get yourself an Acoustic Fretless Bass Guitar? Although to be honest, you can't beat the real thing (sound and feel wise) Edited May 6, 2016 by lowdown
keefbaker
Aye, fretless, tone rolled off, foam mutes, bit of saturation, play near the neck. Probably closest you'll get.
KevB
Out of curiosity was there an upright setting for the Variaxe? Never got round to trying one out.

tauzero
Or use an Ashbory, upright sound and very tendonitis-friendly.

I tried one last year, it didn't quite work for what I wanted, which was piano and looping. It did work great though for more legato type stuff, such as synth pads and synth bass lines, so I imagine it should work great with upright bass sounds. To date I have sampled my various basses (fretted and fretless) and double bass. Fourier spectrum and envelope analysis points the way forward. I have also identified some problems that require further thought.

I'm intrigued by the possibility of some sort of upright simulation using convolution reverb and impulse responses from an acoustic DB. I've seen various posts on the web in this vein but no mention of end results.
