Moos3h Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Go old and heavy. I just grabbed an Ashdown 4x10 combo for £100 because no one wants the weighty gear any more. Have stuffed some BIG castors on it...boom (literally). Quote
Dan Dare Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 If you're not bothered about weight, Moos is right. Lots of good old heavy stuff going cheap. There's an old Peavey World Tour head with an 8x10 at the rehearsal rooms I use and it sounds fab. Effortless and fat. Wouldn't want to carry it, mind. Quote
bigevilman Posted May 11, 2016 Author Posted May 11, 2016 Ive been thinking about the older, heavier stuff, as I wont be gigging loads (atm anyways!) Plus the heavy stuff always sounded great Quote
inthedoghouse Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Plenty of Trace gear on the used market. Bomb proof and reliable (at least mine has been) Quote
Nicko Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Another vote for the Blackline 250. I use mine in a 5 piece playing small to medium pubs. A 4 ohm 2 x 10 with this amp is definitely enough unless you want it very loud. I never need to turn up beyond halfway. It does tend to break up a bit if you use an active bass in the higher output range though. Quote
PaulFenderJazz Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016
My lightweight combo is a TC Electronics BG250-112. Highly recommend it and not that expensive. Holds its own easily in my five piece rock band and four piece metal band.
I had the 115 version, also sounded good to me, although I was a newbie at the time so what did I know! I replaced it with a BH500 plus a BC210, again was very pleased with those. I see someone is selling a full gigging rig with a 410 as well for 400 on the gear for sale, deffo worth a look Quote
blank20 Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 I heard TC Electronics make grat amps, so maybe this? https://gb.muzyczny.pl/161473_TC-electronic-BG250210-bass-guitar-combo-TonePrint-technology.html Or this Warwick. It's loud as hell http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Warwick-BC150-150W-Bass-Combo-Amp/FKN Quote

bigevilman Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 Well cheers for everyones inpuy the kind helpful response ive come to expect from BC'ers. I'm off on holiday next weekend, then its serious looking time, as my first gig of the year is in july. Will keep you all in the loop what I end up with Quote
jkent Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 i've been gigging with the Ampeg BA-115 in school for campus gigs for like ever, thing is a tank and is super reliable. Quote
Swijn Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 First vote would be Ampeg - but you've got to like the tone. I have played several Trace Elliott rigs over time and for your budget these would be a good shot. +1 for the Fender Rumble too... Quote
bigevilman Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 Well thought I'd keep everyone updated... Hopefully should be picking up a old eden nemesis 410 4ohm so will be a nice one cab solution. Now looking at a 250 - 300watt head to power it. Whats the Lm250 blackline like guys? I had a lm2 running through a 8ohm cab, and it was great. Would i get the same kinda output with the 250? Quote
The power output of the amp should be about the same, as a 500W head into 8 ohms will deliver about half of it's maximum rating, and should be similar to a 250W head at 4 ohms - but a lot will depend on the frequency response (and real impedance) of the cab. Not having used either Eden or Markbass cabs i couldn't comment on how they will actually handle that output... Edited June 14, 2016 by Conan Quote
naxos10 Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 There's an Ampeg PF350 at Absolute Music (as of last Friday) for £199 that might fit the bill. Quote
bigevilman Posted June 19, 2016 Author Posted June 19, 2016 Well to keep everyone updated, I've just pulled the trigger on a blackline LM250. Bought a Eden Nemesis N410RS 4ohm cab, which when picking it up, feels loads smaller than my old 104HF. All in, my entire rig was under £300, so all in all, I think it should hopefully handle most gigging situations Quote
Lozz196 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Nice one, those Nemesis cabs are great, I had one for a while. Quote
pintspiller Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 The Laney in a local practise room is awesome. Quote
