Acoustic preamps

I have a tanglewood odyssey with an artec apc pro. Previous owner fitted a battery box on upper bout. I chased and found a fault in the junction block that joined the battery box
The preamp still doesn't work (I'm pushing the batt check button and it doesn't light up, new 9v batt checked with a multimeter
Does anyone have one or experience of one ? Do I need to plug in a lead to get it to work?

Do they "burn"?

These things can pack up, yes.
Have you definitely got 9V at the preamp (if possible check this at the circuit board inside), and have you checked the pickup itself? The preamp is all but unrepairable, so replacement or bypass are the only further options.
What size is the cutout for the pre?

Its 45mm wide
I think its input switched but would imagine batt check would work without

Tricky part is that battery is separate and last owner fitted a batt box. Trend now is for built in batteries

Wonder if anyone has a scrap apc pro ?
