Jarhead
I'm kind of lost right now guys, I have a choice of four cabs, 2 4x10s and 2 1x15s. the 2 4x10s are the Laney RB410 or the Marshall MBC410, and the 2 1x15s are the Marshall MBC115 or the Laney Rb115. Anybody here have any experience with any of these? Zach

mr_russ
Out of interest - what is limiting your shortlist to these 4 cabs?

Jarhead
Guys, the shortlist is because of my small budget. I have found all of these cabs for under £200 online, and i have enough space for them. Zach
alexclaber
Have you looked at used gear? More for your money, particularly with a smaller budget. Alex
mr_russ
That's cool - If I was looking for a cheap stand alone cab, I'd go for a peavey 410 tvx - they weigh a bit but I'm always impressed at how good they sound- new they're about £230 - secondhand, I've seen them for as low as £100 Other than that - a used warwick 411 pro or hartke xl 4x10 would be a good bet I've always found a 1x15 on its own to be difficult to hear live and I wouldn't touch the laney stuff with a pooey stick. The marshall dbs range was a bit naff in my opinion, gigged a 4x10 + 1x15 dbs rig a couple of months ago - couldn't hear the low stuff at all - I'm not familiar with the mbc stuff however. If i can find one, Ill have a go, but otherwise it could just be a blind buy. Im not hugely bothered about tone, mainly because im fully aware im not going to have enough cash for a while to start chasing it lol. mr_russ
Not sure what's near you in the way of guitar shops - peavey bass stuff is quite prolific, you should be able to find a 410tvx fairly easily - try gumtree out.
bass_ferret
One good 115 is better than 2 crap ones. Get one of Alex's cabs.
mr_russ
The 1x15 alex made for me is wicked - stupidly light aswell
Jarhead
Does Peavey usually display at Music Live, because if they do, I might as well just buy the TVX there, because thats when my dad gives me the money for a cab. Jarhead
Yeah, they are exhibiting this year. If they have one there, Ill have a go and see if its what Im looking for. Zach
Protium
I'm not a fan of single 15" speakers. I certainly wouldn't go for the Laney 115 as the frequency range is only 35-800Hz. The Marshall 115 at least has a HF horn which will increase that somewhat although I can't find any specs atm. A 210 or 410 is what I'd go for

Jarhead
Lol, I have space, but not that kind of space Although I idolize your massive Ampeg rig Wizbat, how much did it all cost, if you don't mind me asking? Zach
wizbat
Hi sorry for the late reply! I paid £1000 and £700 for each of the svt2 pro,s the JH flightcase they live in was about £100, the first 8x10 I bought was brand new for £880, since then the most I paid for a cab was £700 for a flightcased one and £300 for the cheapest. The most recent video that we have done ( which should be on our site in the next few days) sees me on stage with SIX 8x10s stacked horizontally 3 high!! altho some were borrowed from the very nice people from Ampeg uk and John Henrys. Paul. Ever get the feeling that we miss our Lego sets?? Edited October 4, 2008 by wizbat
Jarhead
Wizbat, I'll trade my soul for your rig Really though, I aspire to own something of a similar size if I ever have enough spare money, and room, and a band with guitarists that have similarly mahoosive rigs Zach
