is this a good buy? What kind of sound should I expect

i bought a wooden necked status energy with led's a short while ago for £200 which was a bargain, so id say this is probably about the right price, nice looking bass! youtube status energy, should give you an idea

Nobody seems to want the wooden neck ones, is there any reason for that? I have not bought this to make money

I just feel so unsatisfied with my cheapish instruments I have got so I think £250 inc P&P for quality well made bass is a good price.

That is a great price for this bass, wooden neck or not. Some people have the nerve to charge double that just because it has a graphite neck :)

I suppose it's because the graphite necks have that certain extra growl to them, but the wooden ones have very sturdy graphite rods in them, either side of the truss rod. You still get the genuine Status sound either way. Still a steal. I paid more for my passive Shark!

jaymanfunk, I think you'll find that if you drop your Energy's price by £100 it'll fly out the door :)

My new bass arrived today.
I am completely happy with my new bass although I have to get used to it.

My initial opinion is, there is a bit more tension on the strings then I am used to.
Also the pickup output is very high, it is a loud bass.
but it feels well made and good quality, not the most versatile of basses but a good overall sound that will work in most situations. not unlike like a jazz bass.

I think it is a tone shape knob far too subtle for my liking.
Any one thoughts on this matter

i didnt really like the neck profile, i found it to be too flat, i like something nice n thick to grab on to usually (fnar fnar!)

i didn't own mine long enough to get to know it really. cant comment on the tone knob as mine didnt work due to dodgy electronics, but apparantly according to doctorofthebass, its just a treble boost?

Great buy. These are good basses. Easy to play too. ^_^

Action aside, the string tension may be down to the strings and not the bass (assuming you didn't change them).
