fretmeister
Just having an idea or 2. Has anyone tried the Ibanez SR1206 with tuning that low? Did it work? I don't usually like 6 strings, but the Ibby only has 16.5mm spacing at the bridge so I might be ok with it, and I fancy getting lower than a piano. CamdenRob
I've not played one myself but surely a low F# must be barely audible?
Machines
A low F# is more of a feeling. Check out Periphery or Haken.
Chiliwailer
Probably sound better on the BTB1206 I'm selling as it has a 35 inch scale. Me, plugging? Never...
Dood
I've not played one myself but surely a low F# must be barely audible?
It would seem that way, but with the right kit, you can get a really good strong note out of the F#. On occasions I've gone another tone down to E! - For my 34" scale bass it did mean going for a custom .190 gauge string, which is massive but necessary for it to translate clearly. Oh and of course, the bass construction, pickups and amplification all have a very strong effect on whether or not those low notes are a damp squib or pure earthquake joy! ha ha! Grahambythesea
Why not use the Behringer Ultrabass which electronically creates an note an octave lower. Probably a whole easier than floppy strings! (Other octave shifters are available, not plugging this make particularly, just happen to have one)
fretmeister
I've got a couple of octave pedals, but I don't wan't to be having to turn them on for single notes when I need them. For some pieces the timings would be a pain - on / off / on / off etc in a run.
