I can record 8 tracks onto my mixer and if they are able to handle snare or kick (im kinda dubious that they will) even if they dont sound great they will do for now as they are updateable. slaphappygarry Posted September 29, 2008 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Jup, I have a pair. They have a pad so in theory can handle anything up to 130db ish. I have used them on Hi Hats and as a stereo pair with great success. They also do very well on acoustic guitar. Sound wise they are pretty clear although don't handle bottom end too well (kick...) but a pencil mic like this is never intended too. My only gripe is the noise floor of them is not amazing. Its acceptable but not what you would expect from something more expensive which is why I also use a pair of AKG c414's or Rode NT5's on quieter stuff. Incidentally, the 150's handle a louder source than the NT5's so all three pairs complement each other in their own way. Now, for the nitty gritty. Are they worth £60? Without a shadow of a doubt. Buy a pair, keep them 'just in case' you need them or whatever. Mine find their way onto all sorts of applications and are generally a brilliant wild card mic for all purposes. Im just looking at making an all purpose recording setup, theyre high quality at that price. Should run into my Korg d888 great and theyre small,.
