spongebob Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Why do I always have really bad GAS for an SG bass? I've never played short scale, or a Gibbo, but I seriously love the look of those. Doesn't mention a hardcase? Maybe it's seeing some footage of Andy Fraser from Free years back....sure he played one? Quote
synthaside Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 they do a non short scale SG bass , in both epiphone and gibson flavours Look for an Eb3 ;-) Quote
spongebob Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Cool! I've been listening to a bit of 'Live Cream' this week as well - Jack Bruce's Gibson bass tone is just huge. ....and I'm sure Phil Lesh played in the early days of the Grateful Dead as well. I'm not helping myself here...... Quote

NancyJohnson Posted May 26, 2016 Author Posted May 26, 2016 (edited)
Not wanting to derail the thread but THAT was a blast from the past. Whatever happened to him?
He always had great basses for sale! I had a few conversations with him online; he said he used to trawl eBay every day for every bass for sale on the .com site to accumulate vintage guitars and basses. Last contact I had, he was putting together a large format coffee table book full of hi-resolution photos of the stuff he'd sold. On the upside, he was wholly responsible for the Dudepit editions at Lakland; I think a lot of people were pretty much barking, 'Take my money!' at him. Later, things soured...he allegedly had a mahoosive drug problem and after taking deposits for another special edition of some sort, money went missing and things went south for him very quickly. I think he was responsible for the Thunderbird shaped prototype Lakland built (you'll find photos online). That's pretty much it as far as I know. I might have a trawl on Google later today as this has picqued my interest in him. Edited May 27, 2016 by NancyJohnson Quote
