Didn't know which forum to post this "need tone/sound" question to here, so if you know just say and I'll move it or post similar ones there in future - cheers!

It's one of the songs I've been given to learn for a covers band I'm auditioning for and I've been trying took figure out the bass tone without success. I can hear a lot of compression and stones kind of vibrating growl.

Anyone got close? Would really appreciate hearing how you did it!

I've only got live recordings of YouTube like this to go on.

It's a Stingray he has in that clip, which has a very punchy, articulate, upfront, focused sound. When I want that sound (I no longer have a Stingray), I switch to the back pickup of my Jazz and turn the tone to half way and the bass up high.

The original album version sounds like just a P bass or a Jazz.
