KingPrawn Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 (edited) I really love her playing and how inventive she is. This video is so great. Enjoy https://youtu.be/ZKaKghCTdh0 Edited May 23, 2016 by KingPrawn Quote
bubinga5 Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Tis a bit too theatrical for me. But i respect her mixing it up. Fantastic bass player she is. Quote
KingPrawn Posted May 23, 2016 Author Posted May 23, 2016 Really? I couldn't disagree more. She takes the concept to a diffrent level. It David Burns, Scott Walker, Bowie, Sparks etc. Performance and art meet. I think it's ground breaking. Quote
bubinga5 Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 (edited) Yeah it is KP, very clever no doubt. Its probably my dislike of theatre, I'm not a fan a musical's, or Opera and I rarely concentrate on lyrics in music. (there are exceptions of course). My wife is always prompting me as to what the song is about, and I'm like, oh yeah that really opens up a different dimension to the song. but i get pretty absorbed in the sounds of the instruments and the rhythm . I've always been the same. My Dad was the musical director for the Hastings Orchestra in New Zealand and i listened to classical since i was 3 to 10 years old. maybe thats what programmed me. Then instrumental Jazz and Funk came along. Then again i love Gene Kelly and his singing dancing. . work that out. I prefer this. (yes again i post this). Its just wonderful singing bass playing from her. Edited May 23, 2016 by bubinga5 Quote

RickyV Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 I'm with Bubinga on this one. I much prefer to see her as an artist in the more traditional band environment. Such a beautiful voice and great bass player. Her latest more theatrical stuff, I dont know, something just jars a bit for me. Now I like theatre including musical theatre but here, with her singing, playing and 'acting' at the same time, it is too much going on for me. I want to listen to her sing and I want to watch her play, her technique etc. but with all the moving about as well, I cant concentrate on what is actually good about it. Quote
pineweasel Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 I've not been watching the videos but I love this latest album. It's great to hear her playing and singing in what is basically a trio. Fantastic guitar playing too. Quote
julesb Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 I love anything she does. A major talent which ever angle you look at it from. The latest album is brilliant. Quote
odysseus Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Yup. She's an outstanding performer, whatever she puts her mind to. Quote
jkent Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I really love this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ2o5CWCOgk Quote
Delius Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Maybe it's just been a long week (already) but I must confess I almost had tears in my eyes watching the Stevie Wonder cover... beautiful. Quote
TheGreek Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I'm listening to this while I type - technically, it sounds great but it's not the easiest on the ear tune I've ever heard.. Quote
Passinwind Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 Anybody else here watch the live stream of the recording of her new album? 77 hours from start to finish, with no material worked out in advance. And the topper: only 7,777 physical copies sold, with no digital distribution at all. They've already taken the live stream down and the physical copies sold out yesterday. I love everything about this, really. Quote
