bubinga5 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 (edited) I think it makes a difference with the tension/tone and the way the string behaves or lasts. Feel free to disagree. while putting on my new 5 string set, i noticed as i was winding on the tuner peg the string would try to naturally twist. So. When winding and the string is loose (when the string gets tighter) hold as hard as you can on the string by the nut and let the ball end fall/twist into its natural position in the bridge ( ooh you filthy buggers). THen pull the ball end in to the bridge and tighten up. Im pretty sure if you don't do this it has a negative affect on the winding of the string. Thus effecting the natural position of the windings of the string. wether its unwinding or winding too tight I'm not sure. Just a thought. Edited May 24, 2016 by bubinga5 Quote

chris_b Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Yep. Don't let the strings twist when you're putting them on. Quote
CamdenRob Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Yeah i always try and get as less twist as possible... dunno if it makes any difference, but it seems like it must do so I've always restrung that way. Quote
luckydog Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Confused, Yoda is. Why would a string twist as it's wound onto the tuning peg - do some peeps wind the string onto the peg by hand rather than hold and guide the string whilst turning the tuning paddle to wind it on? LD Quote
Bolo Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Frudua made a decent setup video where he shows what's going on. About 3 minutes in. https://youtu.be/cLcwYNHDnPY Quote
