bubinga5 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 (edited) John Scofield, Billy Cobham, Alphonso Johnson, George Duke. What a band playing a Billy Cobham classic. This is just sit back class Jazz Funk. I just bought Billy's album 'Focused' again as i lost it. there is a track called Mirage that is fantastic, that he played on an old BBC 2, or it could be channel 4 i can't remember. a programme called Jazz 606. Anyone remember it.? This is such a great great great….. Billy Cobham record from Focused. Its so very funky. There is no point in mentioning Billy Cobham's sublime drumming, as many know what he's about. The groove is as tight as can be. Stefan Rademacher's bass solo at 6.10 is great He's playing a pre Gibson Tobias 5 string on this recording i believe. DaveFry Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Ah yes . Dynamics ( George could hit a Rhodes hard when he wanted ) , and a Sense Of Humour . George said that Zappa "opened him up" to comedy , and the Duke/Cobham project was a vehicle for experimenting with that :- Quote
