PaulWarning
FWIW...the biggest pulling bands around here are mostly ska bands... as you get all the white guys who can't dance go to those If they are half reasonable..they'll be around the £500 mark... simply because they are worth it in bar take.
yep it's the same round Nottingham as well, the Ska and Mod bands go down well which means they get more money, fair enough I say
Dood
What's shocking is that these regional rates have pretty much stayed the same even since I first started playing. Even 'Minimum Wage' has managed to increase in comparison lol..
#SadTruth Wow I was about to post this! Great minds think alike Dood! Nicko
We play in West London pubs and £200 to £250 is the norm if the venue is putting the music on free. At a place that charges on the door £400 is more like it. We also got a NYE gig at £
Callumjord
NE of Scotland we charge £350 for a pub gig and a number of pubs are more than happy to pay that

Kevin Dean
Thanks all - so bands on the IOW are getting properly stiffed by the looks of it! I wouldn't mind so much if we got £120 'off-season' (the IOW is very tourist-based) and the money went up in the summer but it's the same all year. Not that I'd ever stop gigging but it's interesting to know what you guys get paid in other parts of the country.
I think it's disgusting & I know the island pubs pay a lot less rates than mainland pubs . one pub in particular pays less than one a 3rd it's size even though it's packed .that's why I try to stick to private & mainland gigs . Mork
As a 3 piece acoustic rock covers band in the Thames valley for a pub gig we get around £250, but often we end up being expected to play for 3-4 hours! We don't mind if its a good night and the pub is friendly and gives us a few beers or food but often if you don't you end up getting complaints and no more bookings. Its all very far from the MU recommended rate of some £124 per musician per 3 hours (including set up time !!). On the flip side we understand pubs are also struggling to stay afloat. It is all very conflicting. Then there is the open mic scene where the organiser gets a kickback but mostly the performers don't even get a free beer/soft-drink! And don't even mention town/village festivals etc where your are promised unmissable promotion for your band, get ordered about by some amateur fascist, get your sound completely wrong and then are expected to be so grateful for the opportunity... grrr. But then if we were all so upset about it and refused to play then lots of people would miss the wonder and joy of live music.. and we would not be able to live our dream for a few hours. Difficult...
