JapanAxe
I frequently use just a BF Midget and either my Demeter or Streamliner.
Musashimonkey
I've tried a number of good 12's but in my loud rock band the only single 12 to keep up volume wise was a Barefaced Big Baby 2.
Painy
I've been through the "smallest possible gigable setup" thing over the last year or so... I found 1x 112 to not quite be enough for me. I went from 2x 112, to a 210 to my current set up of 2x 110s, which is super portable and easily loud enough for my needs. The whole rig weighs 16kg.
Have you thought about attaching the cabs to a headband and wearing them like headphones? Convenient for moving them around by public transport, would undoubtedly sound better than a pair of Dr Dre's cans and you'd be at the hight of fashion too! Mudpup
Ive got a couple of Barefaced Big Baby 2's and frequently use just one in a loud rock covers band
Kev
I'm yet to use it on stage yet, but if rehearsals with my new band are anything to go by (two loud down-tuned guitars and a drummer), my Vanderkley 112MNT will keep up just fine for the kind of gigs we will be doing. I can't imagine needing a second. Sounds bloody superb, too.
discreet
I used a Bill Fitzmaurice Jack 12 (1X12) in a 9-piece function band with 3-piece brass section, 3 singers, drums and guitar. This with a Markbass LM250. Never missed a beat. We were playing mostly Stax and Motown covers. I'm currently rocking a 1X10 (BF One10) in my current band with 300W/8ohms and it's great. keep thinking I should do what Rob's done and buy another One10, but it's just not necessary. People think they need loads of gear when they don't! Edited June 1, 2016 by discreet
CamdenRob
How about a pic with one of your Wals, just for porn's sake; maybe proportion too, but mainly porn?
Poor lighting I'm afraid, but this gives a better indication of size. I haven't gigged it yet, but it was more than enough at rehearsal. Very pleased so far

M@23
I've got by with a 1x12 before, for acoustic stuff it is fine. But I've never been that comfortable using them with a full band and acoustic drums. Part of the reason I up sized back to a chunkier 2x12 is that I always ended up using my 1x12s together anyway.
Merton
I've happily gigged a single 1x12 with a loud rock band (one 4x12 and one 2x12 Guitar cab, drummer without a volume control...), albeit with PA support. It was a Baref***d Super Compact and it was superb. Others may disagree.

Lozz196
I`ve gigged with a Markbass CMD121P combo, in a band containg drums, 2 basses, keys and 3 guitars. Ok I wasn`t having to do all the low-end myself, but it was plenty loud enough, for both on-stage monitoring and for providing enough sound for a regular pub size venue. But then we weren`t a particularly full-on band, we had a full sound due to the amount of instruments. I think it depends more on genre than anything, some genres I wouldn`t think it would work so well, others, no problems.
MoonBassAlpha
I use a BF super midget all the time with a shuttle 6 in a 3-piece, more than loud enough. The only time I've used 2 cabs recently was using the little Ashdown 15w valve jobbie, and that was loud enough onstage too, just. We always have p.a. support at the gigs we do round Oxford. molan
Not since last night. . . My 'second' rig is a Markbass LMII with a CMD112H. I've gigged with this loads of times in a loud rock band setting. Easily handles the volume and adjusts to lots of room types without much hassle
bassbiscuits
Having tried out a Markbass 1x12 combo yesterday I've realised that 1x12 isn't quite enough for me. I'm quite heavy-handed baboon, and my bass playing is quite prominent in the bands i play with, so i think my Schroeder 1210 is about as compact as i can get away with for now. EBS_freak
It all depends upon the context of a band. I'd quite happily do a coffee shop gig with a 1x12... You'd probably get away with it in quiet more acoustic focused bands... but you'd likely be wanting if you got much louder or larger venues. Probably worth clarifying whether this 1x12 has got to provide for front of house too... or whether it is just monitoring... or whether it's working whilst being supported by a PA (and of course, what PA - as that will change depending upon venue)

How any of us'd ever agree about anything more abstract, such as, erm, 'heft' is beyond me… Horses, courses…I think the default answer to the question "Is it just me…?" should really be 'probably'
