Hi Bass chatters, I thought I would share the ongoing process of a build I'm having done by a chap local to me that I found by Google. He has some serious wood skills! His builds are usually more pointy but he will accommodate anyone

It's going to be a single cut 6 string with Nordy big singles and a hand made preamp with active/passive

The top, I think it was poplar burl of some description

Zebra wood for the fretboard

Wenge with a maple strip and the top glued on for the body

The neck glued, it will have two truss rods. 3 strips of Wenge with 2 blood red Padauk strips

the neck shaping will begin this week and I'll be going round on Friday to have a grope and fine tune the feel.

I like heavy a heavy bass, I don't feel right playing light ones. Chambering was offered but I declined

Wings have been glued on and rough shaping has commenced, plus a bonus wet rag wipe to make the grain pop

Ok, it's been a while as I needed to pop round to get the forearm rest shaped to my arm and decide pickup locations before it could progress any further. I popped up yesterday and decided the cutaway wasn't deep enough as I couldn't reach the top fret at all so that has been tweaked too. Oh and had a finger ramp made too. Nearly there now!

looks really good especially on that top wood

The colour will also go up the fret board and fade into natural around the 10th fret. He did the same thing on one of his mega pointy death machine guitars he made and I liked it.

That shot of the green stained off cut looks incredible. The finished bass will be stunning.

Oiling has finished, frets are finished, pickups installed, just the wiring to go now and it's sorted

If I remember correctly,

Volume (push pull active/passive), pickup panning, passive tone, the two stacks are bass/treble and mid/mid frequency. The last pot is midi pickup volume

Midi controls I'm not sure yet, need to read up on the Roland bass midi pickup. I imagine it is two patch selectors and the 3 way switch is midi pickup only, electric pickup only and both together.
