sumorabbit Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) Hi Bass chatters, I thought I would share the ongoing process of a build I'm having done by a chap local to me that I found by Google. He has some serious wood skills! https://www.facebook...uitars/?fref=ts if anyone is interested in his work. He's a sound chap and has great pride in his work. His builds are usually more pointy but he will accommodate anyone It's going to be a single cut 6 string with Nordy big singles and a hand made preamp with active/passive The initial drawing he made from my garbled sketches The top, I think it was poplar burl of some description Zebra wood for the fretboard Wenge with a maple strip and the top glued on for the body The neck glued, it will have two truss rods. 3 strips of Wenge with 2 blood red Padauk strips The neck lined up with the cut template the neck shaping will begin this week and I'll be going round on Friday to have a grope and fine tune the feel. sumorabbit Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 I like heavy a heavy bass, I don't feel right playing light ones. Chambering was offered but I declined Quote

sumorabbit Posted June 18, 2016 Author Posted June 18, 2016 Ok, it's been a while as I needed to pop round to get the forearm rest shaped to my arm and decide pickup locations before it could progress any further. I popped up yesterday and decided the cutaway wasn't deep enough as I couldn't reach the top fret at all so that has been tweaked too. Oh and had a finger ramp made too. Nearly there now! scojack Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 looks really good especially on that top wood Quote
sumorabbit Posted June 23, 2016 Author Posted June 23, 2016 The colour will also go up the fret board and fade into natural around the 10th fret. He did the same thing on one of his mega pointy death machine guitars he made and I liked it. Here is a pointy guitar he made with a similar fading up the neck. sumorabbit Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 So many controls, should be fun! Quote
sumorabbit Posted July 8, 2016 Author Posted July 8, 2016 If I remember correctly, Volume (push pull active/passive), pickup panning, passive tone, the two stacks are bass/treble and mid/mid frequency. The last pot is midi pickup volume Midi controls I'm not sure yet, need to read up on the Roland bass midi pickup. I imagine it is two patch selectors and the 3 way switch is midi pickup only, electric pickup only and both together. Quote
