OrsomeWells
Does anyone know if this "Special Edition" Cornado on the Fender site: http://intl.fender.com/en-GB/series/special-edition/coronado-bass-rosewood-fingerboard-aged-cherry-burst/ is the same as the MIC Modern Player Coronado model? (apologies if this is a dumb question!)
EssentialTension
I don't exactly know but the spec for the two on the Fender site is exactly the same except for the different product numbers.
Billy Apple
I had a vintage aged cherry-burst one and I can't see any difference. Might they have finished the first run, made a second run of identical instruments and called it 'special edition'? Maybe they've addressed the weighty center block? Billy Apple
Engraved neck plate? Can't remember what mine had
whizzzy
I've compared the photos in the ad closely to my MIC Modern Player Coronado and can't see any constructional differences so can only assume, as posted previously, that the special edition bit applies to the cherry burst option. Great basses by the way, the finish on them is excellent, except for the control knobs which really could have been better. I do recommend that you try before you buy however as these basses are surprisingly heavy for what you would imagine them to be. Mine weighs in at exactly 10lbs.

Moved on though for being too heavy

Muppet
Just compared those pictures to mine (although mines CAR). Absolutely no difference. I think they've just moved it to a different series - it's the same guitar.
OrsomeWells
Thanks for the info gentlemen, that vintage cherry burst is lovely - can't see any appearing on the s/h market for a while which is a shame
neepheid
Centre block is a concrete block I think I had a Starcaster and it was also surprisingly heavy for a semi-hollow.
spongebob
I love the look of those!
PlungerModerno
I love the look of those!
I think they look good - but the headstock is goofy IMO. I also think that hollow bodies and semi-hollow bodies need to be light if they're going to be as big and delicate as most of them are. Big + Heavey + Delicate = A big NO in my book. OrsomeWells
Just to update this, emailed Fender GBI and asked the question and got told: "Essentially they are the same, it is still part of the Modern Player family. Specs wise there is no difference"
