edpirie
I picked up a domestic JV Jazz in sea foam green the other day, and had been wanting to give the classic EMG J-set a go for a while to try something a bit more modern. So off to the Gallery who obliged with the wiring and I have to say I was underwhelmed to say the least. It wasn't sterile (which is the usual gripe), more just weak and thin which is the last thing I expected. Anyway I was about to take it back to get the stock pickups refitted when I remembered I had a set of TI flats knocking about. Put them on and it was a night and day difference - fat and punchy but with a nice bit of growl - just what I had been after. Plus they allowed the action to be a bit lower with a nice bit of fret buzz when you dig in. Just goes to show how much strings can make a difference - not a combo I would have thought of, but it's doing the trick so far.
Chiliwailer
I'm with you, I had TI's on my 89 Thumb 5, which has EMG's and for my tastes they were an incredible combo. Seriously miss that tone, especially the neck pickup sound but sadly I need to move on the bass
fretmeister
I have TI on my Ray5 loaded with EMGs. Sounds lovely.
