charic
That was funny. IMHO. Sadly, it may also have been an example of the mob mentality that often rears its ugly head on BC. I'd not have expected you to be part of that, Dad. I really hope I missed something here, and that I'm am completely wrong.
To be fair, I added that emoticon onto the list as the phrase had popped up a fair bit and was starting to be used out of context as a bit of a "BC phrase". That is (to me) a sick and twisted view, Blue. Suppose someone acted like that to their children? You'd call child support. If someone went off on their girl like that in a bar? Build people, don't destroy them.
You hear cursing and I hear passion and love. Children? blue
I get what you are saying here, but IMO, the clip was the wrong way of getting the point across. In the clip he comes across as an arrogant prick, genius or not there are better ways of dealing with situations. If i've been at a gig where a band member has cocked up (believe me, it's happened), I will highlight what went wrong and work out how we can avoid it in future, because it isn't always the fault of the individual. We all care about the music we perform, and how it's performed, but Buddy's way ins't the way of dealing with it when it doesn't go right. you'd probably find yourself in front of a court for harassment if you acted that way these days.
I'd say your method of dealing with screw ups works for most of the bands here on bass chat. But not at this level when your paying guys 2k a week.
It's different for all of us. Personally, I've always been a fan of the OTT. Blue
Perhaps in time he will continue to develop into something very special indeed, but surely not through the methods at issue here on this thread. Point in posting those vids is that Buddy's fills sometimes slipped and weren't perfect, and some of them were worse than Jonah's as a 5 year old and especially as a 9 year old. But pointing this out to Buddy at the wrong time on the wrong day might have led to some Buddy meltdown, I venture.....for all his talent Buddy had problems, and these were not virtues in any way, they were his demons. Bilbo
Not read the whole thread but I would respond badly to someone like Rich. Duke Ellington was a gentleman and his band 10x that of Rich. This behaviour is simply unnecessary bullying. As for Whiplash, a dreadful film.
