ead Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Apologies if this has been seen before but a friend told me about this and after having a listen tonight I thought I should share it just in case it has been overlooked somehow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_Va3e_52TE Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Utter, utter majesty. How Yes could even consider carrying on without Jon is beyond me. Quote
RhysP Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I've seen this before & it's superb - better than any Yes version I've ever heard. Quote
visog Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 I agree with comments so far. Their version of 'Close to the Edge' is awesome too. Makes Yes Symphonic and Magnification pale. I think it comes down to a combination of fantastic musicians and a really, really good orchestral arranger. Quote
Oopsdabassist Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Yes, it did make the rounds a while back, but by god..its worth highlighting again, the 77 version off Going for the One always made me shiver, and watching Yes do it last year, was SO disappointing, this however is utterly gorgeous, and brings back those old feelings. Good call Ead, to show it again, it has made my day!!!! Quote
ead Posted June 10, 2016 Author Posted June 10, 2016 I listened to it three times on the trot last night (I know, I know, I should get out more) but it is magnificent. Quote
toneknob Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Brilliant, thanks. Have a look for their "State Of Independence" as well. (there's one on youtube but the sound is out of sync) ps no need to have a "Warning" in the thread title btw Quote
spectoremg Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 My first thoughts were 'well we need another live version of a Yes song' but I've eaten my words punctuation and all. Brilliant. Jon's voice is great and without Steve Howe's noodling and Rick 'why play one note when ten will do' Wakeman on it it's a much more faithful version. And yes, with Jon back in the fold Yes wouldn't be a tribute act. Quote
dmccombe7 Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Thanks for posting. Great version and that voice just never ages. I never tire of listening to Jon Anderson's voice. Dave Quote
beely Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Great stuff. Did a double-take at 4.56. Thought it was Rick Wakeman in the choir. Quote
BassBus Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 17 minutes of wonderfullness. Always one of my favourite Yes songs. Quote
bootleg Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Thanks for sharing. Truly wondrous, uplifting, emotional. Made me hear this song all anew. I could fill a posting with superlatives. Got to love old Jon. An honest and innocent performer and human being. Quote
toneknob Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Those Icelandics again, this time with Steve Hackett and Supper's Ready http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AR948ak4VjM Quote
ead Posted June 22, 2016 Author Posted June 22, 2016 Ooooh, interesting, will have a listen later. Quote
spectoremg Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Hmmm, they let him do that utterly unnecessary and disrespectful guitar solo at the end just like the Revisited tour. Shame. Quote
