Phil Lynott used one of the plexi basses after his first bass was stolen you can see it on the vid for whiskey in the jar. As for the Scroll bass, Italia seem to have borrowed the design for their Imola bass.

The Italia bass has little in common with the original Ampeg except a vague approximation of the body shape. The Eastwood version is very slightly more authentic. The Johnson scroll basses are in a whole different league with regards to authenticity of construction and sound and with an equivalent price to match!

Still haven't seen one of the re-issue plexiglass basses in the UK yet. Anyone know somewhere with them in stock?

I haven't seen the basses anywhere, but Dolphin in Liverpool stock the plexi guitar, so they might be worth a shout.

On a side note, I tried one of the skinny-string plexis, and was absolutely stunned by the quality of it. One of the best balanced guitars I've had hold of in ages, and a lovely neck. I want :)

I know it's a different ball game altogether, but Wesley Guitars do plexi basses on Evilbay, I got a 5 string to my door for under a ton! Just fancied a see-thru bass, and it sounds alright too!
