kodiakblair
I remember these from years back. Don't remember anybody using them though https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/fathead-brass-sustain-plate-for-fender-jazz-precision-basses/1173389224

discreet
Not seen one before. I have doubts about its effectiveness as a sustain-improver. Why people seem to think sustain is a desirable trait for a bass guitar has always baffled me, too.

[/quote] Yes and bass guitars are quite capable of producing them. But I've never played a bass where I've thought, 'Strike me pink guv'nor, this a handsome bass and no mistake, me old China. If only it 'ad a bit more sustain, it'd be perfick!' Edited June 10, 2016 by discreet

kodiakblair
@Twincam It's about 25-30 mile. Want me to see if he's still got it ? I saw them advertised in Guitarist mag early 80 and labeled it a fad, like the Hipshot D-tuner & Badass bridge. It's OK I'm not a betting man £20 back then rings a bell. Can't have taken off and patent must have expired cause Peavey have a similar thing on the new Milestones only it's called "Powerplate" Sod sustain,it's for guitar players when they hit the right note. Bassassin
Vaguely remember these from the Olden Days, but several problems suggest themselves to me regardless of the (questionable) validity of the concept - primarily the numerous variations in Fender headstock shape and type/placement of tuners & screwholes. Plus given a bit of brass & a few tools you could knock one up yourself in an hour or two. If you really wanted to. Also can't help wondering - what's in a name? D'you think Leo Quan's finest would still be with us now if he'd called it a FatAss? Jon.
