Financial reasons force me to sell two of my basses.
One of them is this Shergold Marathon 6-string bass, one of the very few made (apparently there were just 95 of them) which make this the most expensive instrument in the Shergold production.
This bass was made famous by Peter Hook of Joy DIvision/New Order, who still has (and sometimes plays live) at least 4 or 5 of the surviving 6-string Marathons.

This is one of the first Marathon 6-string basses made and dates from 1980-81. The body has the original cherry red (or plum red) colour, which has many scars from a hard life on the road and the usual cracks on the painting. The pictures attached have been taken on a sunny day to show perfectly the condition of the body, where the light wood used (it was obeche?) has many dents, marks and bumps on both sides. There are some holes that were made by past owners for a new strap button, and small holes near the control plate where something had been fitted (maybe a synth module) but I preferred keeping the original colour rather that having it refinished.
The back of the neck is worn and has lost the original shine.

The instrument is original apart from the machine heads that have been changed with Shallers (as you probably know the original machine heads on Shergold basses were of a rather low quality). Pickup, electronics and knobs, pickguard, bridge are all original. The control plate has been repaired and shows two visible cracks, but it's stable.
The frets have some wear but still a long life before maintenance.

As you will notice a small steel extension has been mounted on the top strap button to ensure a better balance of the instrument. The weight is 4.05 Kg (8 pounds and 14.86 ounces).

Currently equipped with 20-90 roundwound string, it has a medium-low action. The truss rod works and the neck is perfectly straight.

I'm located in Italy, this is my first sale on Basschat but I can give to anyone interested my nickname on a "popular auction site" where I sold some other instruments in the past and I have an excellent reputation with a 100% percentage and more than 3000 positive feedbacks.

I only accept payment with Bank transfer.
The bass is sold with no case. I will send in a sturdy box with insured courier to European countries, the cost is around £ 50.

I'm not interested in trades, thanks
