sblueplanet
Something about this P bass just doesn't look right. I own a few Fender lefties and this one looks like its an allparts job somehow. What you think? http://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/252424109605
yorick
It's a 76 serial number. Logo looks wrong to me. Body loos like fifties two tone sunburst. Not sure what it's supposed to be. The description is about as vague as it can get. Personally wouldn't bid without seeing it in the flesh and more research.
AndyTravis
I'd say it's legit with crap photos. My 77 had some sun bleaching on the red section of the burst. Ask yourself, if you were after faking a bass to make a buck would you do a 70's lefty P bass? Doubt it. The machine heads look a bit more reissue. As with anything though, see if you can get it in your hands.
Hobbayne
The headstock looks like the 77 P in this link. Thats all the help I can give, I'm afraid. http://101basses.com/bass-number-81-1977-lefty-fender-precision/
wateroftyne
Looks OK to me. Correct left-hooker logo. Dodgy late-70s burst. Gasket under the neck plate. I don't see anything dodgy from the pics.
AndyTravis
And the burst transition 'crescent' on the rear is bang on too. A lot of effort and detail. Fakes usually miss tricks like this. The case isn't right, can tell you that. My mate had a lefty P and strat with the fender logo in that position too.
gjones
Looks kosher http://www.vintageandrare.com/product/Fender-Precision-left-Handed-1980-Antigua-26711
Grangur
Considering the views of others expressed here, and my own thoughts, I'd say it's genuine. There are a few BCers in the area who know Fenders too. So finding someone who can help collect should be fairly easy. Good luck
mxm
Taking the dodgy photography into account, all looks good to me - the bass shares similar attributes as my '76 & '78 Fenders. Think it's a '78. Edited June 15, 2016 by mxm
sblueplanet
Thanks for the feedback on this. The maple neck looks too new to me to be '70's, hence my suspicion it may be an assembly job.

Any assembly would be doing well to get both to be nearly the same. I guess the ultimate bottom line is what price it goes to.
Roger2611
I am not sure about the neck, my 79 Precision definitely has more of a shine to the headstock, this one looks like it is almost a satin finish, could be down to crap images but the neck with the question over the burst finish as well would make me want to have a lot closer look before I would consider bidding for it
Lozz196
A guy I work with went and viewed it and he is certain it is genuine. He did say that the photos are very misleading and that in the flesh so to speak, the true nature of the bass can be seen. Lozz196
No he was keeping an eye on it and in the last 30secs or so it went up to whatever it sold for - something lime £1100ish I believe. He`d set himself a limit and wisely didn`t get into a bidding war.
sblueplanet
Certainly would have wanted to see that one in the flesh.
