taunton-hobbit Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Try carpet underlay felt (not the synthetic 'Tredaire' type) - works a treat and can be fixed with drawing pins (!). Quote
Bill Fitzmaurice Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Any of the various recommended materials will work. Don't bother with the brace, it's too small to be reflective. Quote

Bill Fitzmaurice Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 When you give the back of the cab, or any part of it for that matter, the 'knuckle test' you should hear a high pitched solid 'whack', not a low pitched hollow thud. Spline bracing is better than no bracing, but what works better than any other method is a brace that connects to the opposing panel. Bracing and damping are two areas where manufacturers cut corners more than any other, as you can't see what is or is not inside the cab unless you open it up. Quote

luckydog Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Poly loft insulation (NOT fibreglass) is essentially the same stuff as acoustic wadding, and plenty of it. But panel resonances is the elephant, and wadding can't help that...........brace, brace, brace ! LD Quote

Bill Fitzmaurice Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016
The panel lining made from a cheap yoga mat I bought at Lidl!
Assuming that's a typical yoga mat made of closed cell foam it won't work. Foam must be open cell. Quote
taunton-hobbit Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 EBay is your friend - felt carpet underlay is 4.95/sq mtr, plus postage....that'll work........ Quote

Bill Fitzmaurice Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016
The mat was there more to damp the panel vibration a little, as there was a bit of ringing going on from the back, despite all the bracing.
It won't help that, not enough mass. Quote

taunton-hobbit Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Glad it seems to have come right for you, please post & let us know how its real-world test goes ! Quote
Bill Fitzmaurice Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016
I'd read much about the de-coupling effects of casters and was left with no expectations either way, but once applied they made a big difference with boom-in-the-room,
FWIW casters will have no effect, unless they stand a foot or more high. That's because there's no such thing as mechanical coupling, and it takes that much distance from the floor to audibly impact acoustical coupling. OTOH adding damping to a under-damped or un-damped cab can have a major effect eliminating midbass boom. Quote
