peterkas
Hi everybody Recently I acquired a acoustic fretless (thanks Chris). Now the bass has a daddario Chrome's string set. It sounds good, but I don't know if nylon tapewound strings could sound more audible unplugged, without loose the deep. Please, give me your opinion and your experience. Thanks Edited June 15, 2016 by peterkas
AndyTravis
Nylon tapes are great but take some real working to get volume... Very upright tone which is cool.
Silvia Bluejay
Unplugged acoustic basses never seem to be loud enough, due to their small size. In my experience, the D'Addario Chromes are some of the brightest-sounding flats available; for a more zingy sound you may have to move to rounds, in particular to phosphor-bronze. Bear in mind that, in that case, you'll also have to put up with more finger noise.
peterkas
Thanks a lot for your comments. In my case, the bass is fretless and the noise there is not important but the bronze strings are not an option. I don't want hurt the fingerboard. I don't know what is the difference in sound, volume and tension comparing with the flats
EssentialTension
Acoustic basses need amplifying. There's a reason a double bass is as large as it is.
sblueplanet
I have black tapewound strings on my fretted acoustic bass. I really like the feel of them. I use the bass for noodling at home so volume not an issue.
fretlessguy
If fretless I use tapes and fretted I use flats. Either will work. Prefer light gauges since I do not trust thicker strings with those thin tops on an ABG.

It has a big sound compared to many, so youmay get away with tapes also. Enjoy it
peterkas
Thanks a lot fpr your comments. i know the volume "issue". In the near future I will try a tapes to compare the feel and the sound. As soon I can , I'll record with both type of strings
