petebassist Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Anyone see him at Glastonbury? Wonderful bassist on a very smooth sounding upright, was it JAHMAL NICHOLS, does anyone know? That's the kind of setup & sound I'd like. Quote
Burns-bass Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 I often play along to the Liquid Spirit album. Poorly of course, but that bass tone and the soulful but restrained playing is beautiful. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Highlight of my Glasto viewing, must get his current and last albums. Quote
DanOwens Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Just put it on after your recommendation. That tone is more fretless than Double Bass, wouldn't you agree? Quote
petebassist Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 More fretless than Double Bass? Dunno, but maybe you're right - it's difficult to say. I wasn't there, I only saw it on TV. I was wondering about the strings, pickup, amplification etc as I'm looking to upgrade my Stentor 1950 with BassMax pickup for something better. I've just played a few outdoor shows plugged directly into the PA, so I'm interested in what other players do. Not that I'm playing to 30,000 people though, more like 30 :-) Any tips appreciated. el-gnomo Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 It was Jahmal Nichols, he's a doubler who has an endorsement deal with TC Electronic. He used a TC Blacksmith head last year at Glasto, and (I think) an RH750 and some RS series cabs this year ? Don't see many upright players using TC, so maybe his choice is swayed by his slab playing? Looks to me like he has a David Gage pickup, but I'm guessing based on pictures. No idea what he uses between pickup and amp I'm afraid. Quote
