hairychris
I seem to have recurring bad experiences with drummers. Illegal immigrant Brazilian drug dealer? Yep, been there... Didn't end too well. Edited July 5, 2016 by hairychris
rogerstodge
Yes, unfortunately recruiting the guy that can play and show up, well usually there's a cost with those guys. Sorry guys, I'm just not around guys not interested in being paid for their service. When I have discussions with my gigging contemporaries, venues or clubs always comes up and what follows is "What's the pay?" We will also discuss other bass players in terms like; Oh Bill he"ll take any gig if you throw $100.00 bucks at him " Or yeah Steve got that gig with the band that had the casino gigs, he made 12k last year from gigs" All this is the fun and interesting part of this bar band level sub-culture. And keep in mind and contrary to many of you fun and music is still at the foundation of my culture. Would you guys agree this is truely a cultural difference? BTW, we're playing The world famous Summerfest in Milwaukee tomorrow on The Johnson Controls World Sound Stage.wish me luck.😔 Blue
good luck, how long you playing for just the 4 hours 😏 Edited July 5, 2016 by rogerstodge
cheddatom
Well, I play drums in 3 bands and I can tell you I'm not the "flake" in any of them, but this thread is great for the following...
Yup all lunatics, one of my old drummers from years ago wore leather trousers for gigs so he could take a piss mid gig and it would run out the bottom like a downpipe ... Yuk.

An old band I was in once had a drummer who would appear on stage, 1-2 minutes after the rest of us, to his own intro tape.
Any more genuinely crazy drummer stories?

The story of the marquee wedding and the swimming pool, How to piss off a brand new on the gig horn section Black tie and garage mechanic overalls-complete with half a sump all over them.. But, two of the best musicians I've ever played with were drummers. I'm talking 'different league and some' so not all flakes..
Rexel Matador
When I was younger, I used to sit around in the living room getting stoned with my friends most evenings. My tolerance for the stuff was relatively low though, so I often ended up staggering up to the bathroom to sip water and lie on the floor until the room stopped spinning. On one such occasion, I looked up and saw a tiny, perfect likeness of my own face looking back at me from a patch of black mould in the corner of the bathroom ceiling. The shock of it jolted me into a more alert state and I managed to clamber up onto the bathtub for a closer look. Naturally, my first thought was "wow, this weed must be strong, I'm hallucinating". But it turned out my drummer had actually scraped my portrait in the ceiling mould with a pin a couple of days earlier and just left it there for me to eventually notice. neepheid
Every drummer I've ever played with has been great, both in terms of temperament and ability. Been in three different bands with one of them. Seems I've been extremely fortunate from the highly anecdotal evidence presented here. Dad3353
Every band, group or orchestra I've ever been in as a drummer, I've been the most dedicated, stable, sensiib... Ooo look, a bee..!

Lysdexia
Programmable drum machines. Never late, always in time, no jazz moments (unless told), never complain - will even humanise themselves a wee bit if you want to play fast and loose with groove danger. They don't drink, don't do drugs and never have to explain away any dodgy UKIP leanings. And they don't have clatty habits or stink like, well, a sweaty drummer. Logic X is host to some seriously loveable drummers.
Harryburke14
Drummers? Unreliable? Jack Wilshere? Injured? Water? Wet?
JTUK
Why would a drummer be unreliable...?? more fool the band, in that case.
