'77 Jazz at BD

Noticed this today:

Price seems low at £1299?

Aren't prices for these normally around £1800+, or even more from a shop?

I know it's had the plate changed to stak knobs, and doesn't have the original case (not many do!), but I wouldn't expect that to devalue it by £500? Or am I missing something?

BTW I'm not bringing this up because I'm thinking of buying, just seemed strange to me!!

Maybe it's the photography, but I'm not convinced that's the original finish, and the fretboard looks odd to me.

That, plus it's a crushed vertebra waiting to happen ...

Also looking again, it looks like the first fret block marker is different to the others, truss rod worked been worked on by popping the block out?

It`s also got 3-bolt neck, thought that went out before 77 - certainly had on my 77 Precision.

I think the 3-bolt neck actually came in on the Jazz Bass around '75 and lasted til around '79. Not sure the precision ever had a 3-bolt neck...

Looking closer again, I actually think the truss rod has split the fingerboard on it at some point at the first fret and that's why the first marker got changed. I think that would explain the lower price actually.

I think the weight of it will be having a big impact on its value, that along with the damage in the first fret area and the swapped controls doesn't make a very desireable example of what is recognised as being Fender's worst period

I love mid 70's jazz basses. £1299 seems a reasonable price for a 'player'. If I were in the market for another jazz, I might give this a look. They have another in black which looks in better shape at £1499. I'd definitely want to play them before I bought though.

Didn't everyone used to moan about these re quality control and weight a few years back as being the worst that Fender ever produced? I assume it's only the age then that gives it a value like that.
