That would be Mark D Phillips. The same guy that changes 7-string guitars into wide-necked 6-strings for ham-fisted people, and who butchers cheap Gear4music B-stock acoustics into "thumb style" guitars. He's been going at this for years, and his work is just plain awful. Search for his name on the forum and you'll find plenty more of this type of junk

It's one of those things that starts off funny but quickly tunes sad. Best not say any more and move on.

Cool '54 Precision style bass by Regenerate Guitar Works in Seattle. The builder, Rod Banach, was on leftybassist.com for a long time:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Regenerate-Bass-Guitar-Left-Handed/324492836805

Didn't this belong to @leftybassman392 at some point? I think you had one of two Regenerates?

Indeed it did! Good spot.

You doubtless remember it from my time on Leftybassist. Beautifully made by Rod and great to play (although it had to have some - admittedly very minor - post sale work done on the electrics to kill an annoying hum) and I'd say it's pretty good value at that price. Very old school woody tone as I recall. I remember it as having a Nordstrand pup (can't remember which model). If that's what you're after, you could do a lot worse and pay more.

Haven't been to Leftybassist for years. Do you happen to know whether Rod is still trading?

I sold it as a commission sale through The Bass Gallery in London. No idea who bought it but whoever it was but it was apparently taken pretty much on the spot after a try-out in the shop.

Good to see it again @LeftyJ. Thanks for posting.

I think he quit a few years ago. His site is gone, he never posts to Leftybassist.com anymore. I tried contacting him on LinkedIn recently, but he didn't accept my request to connect.

That's a shame. I was over in the States with friends at the time I picked up the Jazz, and had a very pleasant phone conversation with him.

It would be a real shame if he's not making basses any more. I seem to recall that he branched out into guitar making as well.

Ho hum. :/

Wow. Someone will get an amazing bass at an equally amazing price. 😳

That one was up about a year or so ago, can't remember what it went for, maybe a bit less than what it's on gumtree for now. Would like to try a GB, but expect they're so difficult to sell because you've just got to find a lefty who both wants it and has the cash and inclination all at the same time. Quite tricky to get those stars aligned!

Lots of Japanese Fenders coming up recently. Prices are crazy though, seems to be over a grand for an instrument you could have brand new for £450 ten years back, or £450 second hand 5 years ago!

Well, this looks interesting... Lefty fretless shergold. Black body, maple neck. Still has headstock logo and bridge cover. I have no idea where in the world Guateng is or how much 10,000 of whatever currency is, but unusual to see a Shergold in such good condition.
