Not necessarily the most famous but iconic for me:

Summertime Blues (Eddie Cochrane or The Who)

Knife Edge (Emerson Lake and Palmer)

School Days (Stanley Clarke)

If you allow 4 notes. The same 4 (depending on how divide the measure) can be The Addams Family Theme or Great Balls of Fire.

My son went to see the Stones at Twickenham and (from off stage) Keef played the first 2 chords to Brown Sugar.

He said he'd never heard a noise as loud as the whole stadium (70,000-ish people) cheering those notes.

First 3 notes of chopsticks.

P.S. Can I remind contestants that we are talking THREE notes here. Not the whole intro to every Chuck Berry song ever.

Going back to the first post, Peaches intro quite recognisable but to declare it the three most famous notes in music a bit arrogant perhaps. I was coming back in the car this morning and Ken Bruce played The Wind Cries Mary. Three recognisable chords there.

Very first chord in the Pink Panther Theme.
