cheddatom
I listened to the first track. it sounds well recorded, and I quite like the music. I think the vocals in the verses are too dry and generally sound a bit weak. Otherwise... The kick drum could be punching through a bit more, I'd personally go for a "bigger" snare sound, and probably cut back a bit on the low mids of the bass to help it breath a bit more. Have you noticed how the verses are LOADS quieter than the other sections? It's great to have dynamics but this is too much for me, quite off putting. Are you going to have this professionally mastered? If not you'll have to give it a big dollop of master compression. I'd do that anyway and see how the mix takes it. I suspect the guitars will need to come down in the louder sections It reminds me a bit of a band called Quim Finger who were fantastic
Dad3353
+1 I concur heartily and entirely with the above. Excellent work, could still be improved. Well done all. (I found that the 'trick' with having a section 'jump out at you' is to have a slight volume increase for a second or so, but it actually subsides to the 'regular' volume, ready for another go. It's unusual (but maybe an artistic choice..?) to have such a disparity in volume between the sections. A slight difference, with a subtle 'surge' for a bar or so is, in my view, more effective. Just sayin'...) Zombie1965
Cheers guys, the tracks have yet to be mastered. They will end up far more even. I will up the vocals and the fx on them though as I agree with what you say. I have already lowered the guitar in the chorus and sorted the snare, just an extra 1db fixed it a treat. I'm going to leave the kick alone for now. Here's the last one i'm going to let out for a preview. This one has has some mastering done by myself but will be mastered properly with the rest of the tracks for the album. The reason I come here with these tracks is exactly for the reasons you give above. I record us in my studio, which means we get all the time in the world but sometimes not having a producer who isn't in the band means you miss little things that can make a good track a killer. so again I beg of your thoughts... https://soundcloud.c...-as-yet/s-yuITV We have got 11 and a half tracks down in the last 3 months and 2 and a half left to do before our deadline date of 15th august (Mastering date) I should get the first pressed batch of 250 CD's and artwork around the first week of September. Hopefully a full release iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Tidal etc..will occur 9/9/16. We are hoping to do most of it ourselves. We have only done 18 live shows as a band so far we have a local festival to play next weekend, but then have none booked for the next 6 weeks. We have a 20 date tour (3 gigs a week) of the UK arranged for September/October to promote the album and a yet to be decided debut single.(probably the second track on my opening post) we are hoping to pick up some more dates from the tour. All sound reasonable? Edited July 12, 2016 by Zombie1965
cheddatom
I still think the drums in general sound a bit "weak" but mastering might sort that out, well, other than the toms which don't seem to cut through at all
