NBD Fender AVRI 63 (Sonic blue)

Picked this up yesterday and gigged with it last night, I must say that I'm rather happy with it although the neck is a little chunkier than my pre CBS 64 Precision......it sounds rather awsome through my Ampeg Heritage....its got me thinking about selling my 64 Precision (the red one!) and picking another AVRI up, and pocketing a few quid..! we shall wait and see.......you "hopefully" won't be seeing this sonic blue beauty for sale on basschat,!,,!

Yes... I'll remind you of this statement in your FS thread. Meanwhile, should I start saving up for the 64??

How do the two basses compare in build, playability and sound? Must say the sonic certainly looks the part.

Stunning... Looks almost exactly like my moollon.

Build quality is excellent, obviously the fret boards not quite as dark as the Brazilian on the 64, and although they've faded the dots on the neck, when you compare them side by side you can tell they're plastic and not clay, they have got the mint green pick guard off beautifully and overall I think it's a brilliant guitar,

I hear you mate and like you said earlier 'pocketing a few quid' is what made me sell off my pre CBS basses over the years. Your new one looks lovely and will do the job just as well.

Very nice. I don't think the early dots were ever actually clay though - they were pressed board. Whether they were grey, beige or pink depended on the colours available at the time.

Oh yes, covers are in situ, they used to annoy me but I now anchor my little finger to the pickup cover and Now find it very comfortable.

Ah... might give that a go. I love the vibe but usually remove the pup cover for gigs.

The 64s had a refin in what was the original colour and a shot of laquour over the neck, other than that she's the same as she was when she came out the factory 52 years ago!

I played a 63 AVRI and it was stunning, you 63 + Ampeg setup is giving me gas!
