jassbass Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I can get one of these locally at a good price, older model I think, any one tried one? Is it 220 watts stand alone ? The weight might put me off lol Thanks jay Quote
Lozz196 Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 They sound great, plenty for on-stage monitoring, and probably for regular pub gigs too, unless you`re a very loud rock band. I`ve used them as provided rigs in an 8 piece punky/indie band and was fine for that Quote
jassbass Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 I've read mixed reviews, some say loud enough some say not lol,£150 do cheap enough Quote
Lozz196 Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I think it depends on the band and how sensible they are with their overall sound. I use an Aguilar Tonehammer 500, in a punk band so not exactly quiet, and I`ve read of people saying the TH500 needs more headroom. I think my ears would fall off if I pushed it to max. Sure the BA220 won`t handle a very large stage on its own, but for regular pub gigs it should be fine. It really is one of those things though, you only find out if a bit of kit really works for you when the band is playing. Quote
jassbass Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 Just got one today, just a little plug ,it has a nice full sound, had to turn gain up to get loud volume, but it's not distorting, very clear sound, upto now very good value, didn't cost much Quote
JTUK Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 I prefer the PF setup to a combo like this. I wasn't a fan of the EQ stage of a BA type combo (forget the exact model) and when Ampeg try to get cute in that respect, they come up short, IMO. You should check it out but for me Ampeg struggle a lot against the competition.. or rather they aren't recognisable Ampeg at this pricepoint. But then again, I'm not a fan of the SVT 3 either, I'd far rather a tonehammer (by a considerable margin) but you are talking different money. Quote

Funky Dunky Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 The Tonehammer is several hundred quid dearer. It's a bit like saying a Vauxhall Corsa is a decent car but you'd rather have an Audi A4. I would love a TH.....but....it's several hundred quid dearer. Quote
