fleabag Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) Another MK adorer here - cant really add anymore than has already been said. Unique is the best i can say Only ever managed to get my fretless playing sorted on 3 Japan tracks - Alien, Halloween, and Visions of China. Only got the verse riff of In Vogue because i cant make out the notes in the chorus Edited October 17, 2016 by fleabag Quote
scrumpymike Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Thanks for the crash course in MK - very much appreciated. Quote
Steve Woodcock Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I loved Mick's playing, truly a unique voice on the instrument. I was going to post a bunch of links to collaborations not mentioned above, like Dali's Car, Polytown (with David Torn and Terry Bozzio), Bill Nelson, Midge Ure etc. but instead here is a track from the live Jansen Barbieri Karn album called 'Playing In A Room With People' as that is the one I seem to return to a lot: http://youtu.be/Cb2J__bxsks Quote
mentalextra Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Can't be a bit of Bill. And Mick Karn adding the gravy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaFVb5JCzzw Quote
jazzmanb Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016
Can't echo the sentiments in here enough - nothing like him. OK, Angie Bowie aside (actually, I really don't mind what she does here) - I'm mesmerised by this bassline and his playing... ridiculously good...ok, the Alice band might be a step too far but how cool is this?
That bass line is on Titles iirc Quote

Saday, Maday is originally from MK's solo record Bestial Cluster which I can't recommend enough. Quote
ras52 Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 (edited) Really enjoying these clips, thanks folks!
Hadn't seen that. Wardrobe malfunction.
And it took put her off performing for three decades! Edited October 18, 2016 by ras52 Quote

Knew he'd played on Numan's Dance album with Pino Palladino doing some other of Numan's fretless work around that time. Anyway, much appreciated pointing me at that album, cheers. Quote

bottomfeed Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Much respect to Mr Karn.... Such unique creative playing... The two albums that I first heard that got me hooked were Tin Drum - Japan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le2PzKDpffs & The Waking Hour - Dalis Car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-t8J8OUSo0&list=PLEE235AFE84F57338 It was mainly he, along with early Pino (with Gary Newman & Paul Young) & also Percy Jones that inspired me to rip the frets off an early Aria P copy bass I had, to have an inspired fumble!.... NancyJohnson Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 I'll just add to this that Mick Karn died six years ago today. f*** cancer. P Quote
