Nicko Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Stop sniggering at the back...... Just caught the studio version of Love Cats by the Cure. Any suggestions for re-creating that woody hollow tone? I assume this is an electric bass despite the video showing someone arseing about with a DB. Quote
EssentialTension Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Is it producer Phil Thornalley on double bass? Quote

Jazzneck Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 (edited) Try an Ampeg AEB1 or AUB1 with La Bella flats, much easier to get that sound. Edited July 25, 2016 by Jazzneck Quote

bassjim Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I have a friend who was/is a big Cure fan and also a bassist. I remember him telling me that they did use a double bass and the guy that played it drew fret positions on the neck with chalk or something like that? Might be absolute tosh but for some reason I stored this data in my useless information folder so it might be true.... Quote
spongebob Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Reminds me of that ZZ Top song - 'Woke Up With Wood'! Quote

Maude Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Definitely need a fretless for all the slidey bits. Quote
