karlfer
I've not had a Wenge fretboard before. I'm tidying a bass up for sale, one of the things I'd like to do is clean the fretboard. Can anybody advise if lemon oil is used on Wenge, to finish it off? Cheers in anticipation, Karl.
ead
Hi Karl I have a Wenge board on one of my ACGs. Per instructions from ACG towers I used some of that ultra fine wire wool to get the gunk off and then just a little lemon oil just to moisten the cloth to clean off the dust. Worked a treat. Just to note the dust is apparently not at all good for you so no inhaling please. Grangur
I guess it depends on just how dirty the fb is. I would use a slightly damp soft cloth and a small drop liquid soap. Dry it off we'll with a towel and then use Linseed oil. I find Lemon oil too thin and it goes nowhere.
karlfer
Many thanks chaps, much appreciated . I should really have done it when I re-aligned the strings over the pole pieces late last night

Matte_black
Turpentine to clean the gunk, lemon (or similar) oil to polish it and keep it from cracking. Wax also works but is much more tiresome to apply and polish.
sratas
Had some wicks with wenge. If the fretboard was not full of dirt I usually played them to death, the natural oils of the hands are more than sufficient over time. In fact, wenge is a pretty oily wood and under normal circumstances does not require a lot of chemical conditioning. If the bass was used and pretty dirty, I used a tiny bit of lemon oil, very good for feeding it and making the grain pop while darkening the colour. But, even when necessary, be conscious that you must use a very little amount of oil, and remember to whipe the surface with a dry cloth after 1-2 hours, just to remove the excess
