RichF Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011
I used to have one of those. Sounded great (lovely crunchy drive sound), and really tweakable, but it was physically HUGE. Including the valves and protective handle thing, it must be about 5 inches tall.
that was actually my VT2 which I sold on partly because it was HUGE Quote
gilmour Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011
Thats a great board for a DIY job. Seriously seriously impressive mate! You could start selling them to the BC community.
That's very kind. We'll see how it lives up to gigging first! Quote
pantherairsoft Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Yeah - i'll take that back if it collapses on it's 1st gig! Quote
AndyW Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 At last, I got around to picking up an Aguilar TLC, so all is done on this board for now......................... Also, tried our the Whammy DT and had really high hopes after loving my Whammy IV for years. Unfortunately the the latency was massive so, either the shop had a duff pedal of there was an issue due to them not using the right power supply in the store (too little juice). Will definitely give it another go at a later date as it shouldn't be worse than the Whammy IV (which worked great for me). Quote
pantherairsoft Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I have a whammy DT and it blows the socks off my Whammy IV. Better tracking, more natural sounding upper octave. All round awesome. I'd say it was a duff pedal. My 1st 2 went back! 1 blown LED and one over tightened treadle. Quote
AndyW Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 That's what I was hoping! The Whammy IV tracked like a dream for me, so will be looking to try another DT a.s.a.p. Thankfully it saved me some cash yesterday as I needed to pick up the Aguilar pedal most urgently. P.S. Am still in love with your Roscoes from the London get-together a few weeks ago! Quote
Yeah. I assumed I was either unlucky, or the 1st batch had some quality control issues. The one I tried int he shop was perfect. After have 2 bad ones from the stock room, I just asked for the one I'd tried on display! Lol. It's tracking is lovely and it tracks 4 and 6 string chords as well. I was told it wouldn't cut top end like the Whammy IV does, but unfortunately it does - I run mine after my fuzz and distortion pedals. (which add lots off top end harmonic content). If you run it before the gain section of your chain you'd never notice, but I assume you know that as a Whammy IV owner!
P.S. Ant Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Cranetortoise DD-1b bass distortion, i have two of them because theyre awesome, and the other is a Dollface OD by hello sailor effects, picked it up here, i set the dollface fairly clean but with lots of volume to push the cranetortoise a bit futher, id use both my DD-1B's for this if i could squeeze the second one on.
Also, can't believe you actually had a board for a brief period without even one of your Cranetortoise distortions. That must have been a constant for you for like 4 years or something? More maybe?! Quote
Ant Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I got rid of the mothership, as even though the octave on it sounds much bigger than the super synth, the oscillator tuning is done via knobs which always ended up shifting during gigs because of all the jumping about we do, so it would often go slightly out of tune with my bass signal, it's an awesome piece of kit though, I've got two of them! Pigtronix are sweet!! I only had the cranetortoise off my board for a handful of gigs to have a test run of something else, it had to go back on because it's definitely part of my sound now Quote

gilmour Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011
After years of using only a Tuner I've put a board together as it was annoying me plugging in all the separate pedals each gig. The board itself is a DIY effort that's come out quite nicely, there's a build diary here.

Yeah - i'll take that back if it collapses on it's 1st gig!
Well I've done a few rehearsals with this and gigged it for the first time last night. It didn't fall apart, and made set up much easier, all in all mission accomplished. Now I just need to find something to fill that bit of space... One thing I've noticed is the volume increase when I turn the QTron on, has anyone here ever tried to mod one with a volume control? xgsjx Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 You could move the tuner & octave over & then squeeze a Moog in there! MF101 & an expression pedal on the floor maybe? Quote

gilmour Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) Nah, I had a Moog Bass Murf for a while, far to complicated for my mind (and I didn't really like the sound!). I'm probably going to be very conservative and go for a SFX Thumpinator and maybe some sort of synth pedal. But the `Qtron Mod first. Edited October 29, 2011 by gilmour Quote
pantherairsoft Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Finally I can update on here. Custom board done! Here it is in all it's beauty, fully up an running (just need 1 more adapter from GigRig to get the Cluster Flux on the same supply). I'm now running wireless as well so there are only 3 cables leaving the board at any point. Lead to the amp, power for the board & a midi cable for the tempo on my tremolo. I've also gone wireless IEM for my metronome feed meaning no cables running to me and that's made it SOOOOOOOOO much easier to move around and tweak stuff... Cheers folks! The full set up for live & studio... Quote

The changes are very slight though, and for me, no worry as I don't use a clean bass tone EVER, plus the EQ I use on the amp is extreme (big boost of 50hz). I've spent a lot of time and money getting the signal path as clean as possible. Quote
