Top mount jacks for the win!!! Surely 2 of those straight through jack connectors would allow you to put the 2 mxrs closer and tuck the oc2 right up next to the tuner? Maybe i'm less co-ordinated than others! [/quote] I'd do that with the Boss, but be careful with the MXRs as they almost always use board-mounted jacks, and unless the pedals are bolted down you can put strain on the PCB when pressing the switch. [/quote] Good point. And breaking mxr pedals is a bad idea since they won't send schematics out to repairers, even for pedals that aren't produced any more. Customer service at it's best... I like it but the EQ certainly gives you something to think about; I found dialling in tones more difficult than the B3K but it is certainly more flexible. [/quote] For me a different story; I didn't notice much of a difference when placing the Thumpinator last in the chain, but when I put it first it made a quite audible difference. I got a tighter sound, a better fundamental, and slightly less of those unwanted string overtones and fret noise. It shouldn't affect the upper frequencies, but maybe this was an effect of the buffering. Much more "together" tone in my case. Maybe the effect of the Thumpinator depends on what basses/microphones and effects you have. It seems to pay off to move it around a bit and hear where it's best placed though, some have the opposite experience from mine, best effect when placed last in the chain. I have a similar set-up without the Thumpinator and wondered if it made any difference to any loss in tone that may occur through using 5 or so true bypass pedals? I didnt realise the B7K had a buffer right enough and I had assumed it was true bypass like the B3K. Is there any need for a buffer with as few as 5 true bypass pedals and two 20ft cables? Id hate to think I was losing tone from my bass due to not having any form of buffer on my board. The Thumpinator is still on my want list regardless of its use as a buffer but if it was of value to my setup as a buffer as well as its other benefits then it will definitely be my next purchase. I tried running an active Fender through my equipment and noticed a very slight treble roll off. Noticed it more with a passive. I'd say it's healthy to have at least one buffer on a board. With an active bass it's not as important but if you had only passives I'd definitely put one in the chain.
