Sound wise, I was really, really considering waiting for the 24v version (with a 9v input) but I can use 18v on this or have a doubler for 24v using a 12v from my PSU - the more V's the more headroom and cleaner. Now into the tone and distortion, I do like it - I find I'll most likely use it as a lo gain thickener, and rely on the Capo (when it comes) for the distortion and the OFF1 for fuzz - having said that, and until the Capo comes, the Broadcast has a ton of gain! Very crunchy and vintage classic style, but saturates to fuzz easily from 11/noon on the high gain mode - as a distortion, having it on low gain mode really works for me, with the gain trim between noon and 2 o'clock I'd say. Happy with it as a tone thickener (long term) and distortion (short term/redundancy/different classic taste). It's really confusing as there are two pedals called 'Broadcast'. I used to use the Copilot pedal years ago (it was bloody cool as well). I thought it was a new enclosure for it, then read your write up and thought, "eh? That sounds nothing like the Broadcast"! The Xero is more resonant and sounds a bit more pleasing as a regular envelope filter, but as a sweepable LPF, there is very little in it, though the Dusk utilises the full sweep of the expression pedal without any fiddling and has the included LFO section, which is a huge added bonus, giving it elements of the functionality I once had in the Moog MP-201. As a sweepable LPF, the Dusk has the edge due to functionality. As an envelope filter, the Xero has the edge. (Akai MPC Key 61) It's not exactly portable!... but can plug the Bass into it and use it to add live effects (including compressor, amp and cab sims, modulation, complex delays etc. all are as good as any other multi fx I've used), it also has a tuner. Can only apply 4x effects to the live input channel at one time, but can add another 4x to the main output (and can quickly change presets). And obviously can also use the keys for synth stuff, and the drum pads for drum sounds and samples, and can record and play loops etc. It's not practical for all situations (although some pedalboards seem a similar size!), and I don't fancy stomping on it! But I'm moving house so am bandless for now and it's great for home Bass practice and I reckon it could fit in some band situations - especially if there are songs that need synth bass/pads/samples/loops etc. and can switch back to using it like a Bass multi fx for other songs. They’re Mastro Valvola’s OFF1 and LEM respectively… and they work amazing together! the OFF1 is an octave-fuzz-filter and the LEM is a multi delay with trails octaves fifths and god knows what more… loving every bit of them, they can get VERY synthy! This would give me space for a HX Stomp or GT1000core etc in future, I'd love a LEM to go with the OFF1 however it's just a bit much for the amount I'd get to use it. I was trying to get my head around how I'd wire up the Capo pre/post fx loops with one of the compact multi fx units 2 fx loops and my brain melted. For now this is a pretty great functional board for gigging plus a few extra bits for fun in there. I may have to post on the Capo DI thread but thought some fine folk may be able to help here... Recap: the Capo is a multi gain stage preamp that has pre/post loops and pre/post DI's. I'd like to cable things in a way that the Pre DI is clean, and the Post DI is all processed with the rest of the pedals... My options: a) Tuner > ditto (both always off except if I'm dialing tones or tuning) > Compressor > input of the Capo, with the OFF1 + Broadcast (used to thicken up a bit, not distort) on the Pre loop, or b) Tuner > Ditto > input of the capo, with OFF1 Fuzz + Broadcast + Compressor on the pre loop (would that make any sense??) c) Forget about having a clean DI out and doing tuner > ditto > OFF1 fuzz into the input, Broadcast on the pre loop d) forget about the pre loop and clean DI and do tuner > ditto > OFF1 Fuzz, compressor > broadcast into the input In all cases the post loop would go with delays and chorus... thoughts? PS: I'm moving on the Moog Minifooger chorus, brilliant, and admittedly the Red Witch does less tones, but enough for me and fits better size/orientation wise. Currently the Ditto isn't hooked up because I was missing 1 more long cable to reach all the way back to the capo. Really milking this Cioks 4 😬 Sounding great, thinking about wiring up an FX loop with the mod patch bay so when I'm at home experimenting or playing guitar i can hook up some extra reverbs/echos without messing around with the board. The last thing that I really want to sort though is hooking up the main XLR out: Any thoughts on a lower profile XLR connector I can pop in? Could you send the jack out to the patchbay and take XLR from there, or is the XLR on the patchbay just a passthrough? As you were. Nothing to see here... passthrough only on the MOD1... I made up a cable using these bits... And a normal male xlr connector to finish it off. The xlrf into the Capo stays there full time and doesn't take up much space. Frank Blank Posted April 6, 2023 Share Posted April 6, 2023 Aclam XS1 pedal board arrived this morning, needs a tweak (longer power lead from Alix to DGHL so I can swap the DGHL to the right of the Alix) but really liking the Velcro free clamp system, very tidy.
