thisisswanbon Posted Thursday at 11:15 Posted Thursday at 11:15 Thought I'd try the stripped back board again... without the slight tube compression from the Sushi Box space heater my c4 levels were a bit all over, and I'm not totally sold on the Taylor Shift. As someone in GAS recovery though, I'm fighting the urge to automatically sell off my big board, 3 Leaf Octabvre, SA Ultrawave and aforementioned Space heater to buy preamps and octavers I don't need. 7 1 Quote

I’ve currently got 1 board built, but had 12 until recently (all built!). So all boards and pedals back in their boxes (if they have one that is) and planning to build 4 in total. We’ll see how long that lasts ha ha!! 2 Quote
Paddy777 Posted Saturday at 00:26 Posted Saturday at 00:26 (edited) I’ve been on a bit of a pedal buying frenzy this last month and tonight is the first time I’ve put it all together and gigged it, photo is a bit crap.I almost forgot to take one and so I quickly snapped one before packing up 👇 I had a Capo but sold that and I’ve replaced it with a GK Plex which is mint (as long as you like the GK sound - otherwise it’s probably not! 😁) The amp sounds are absolutely top notch and the contour/presence/bass bump n the EQ all sound great, but it’s the preamp sound that really impresses me, it sounds phenomenal. I don’t like the drive or compressor on it and I assume that’s why this pedal hasn’t really taken off like it probably could have, but I don’t really need those, but it sounds massive. The other pedal that’s been a bit of a revelation is the Trickfish Signal Filter - HPF/LPF which can be turned on & off independently with makeup gain for the HPF. First time with that tonight and I was very impressed - tightened the sound right up, took some nasty clank off the top and boom off the other end so I sounded louder whilst not turning up or being overpowering - I just need to finally work out where I actually want to put the bloody thing in my signal chain Empress bass comp is class and Octamizer and TC Chorus doing a solid job. I’ve got a Mojo Mojo on the way and a Fteletronica Sub Octave coming from Italy next week, and I could do a with a fuzz of some sort too. I also quite like the look of the Creation Audio Grizzly Bass, but I’m not massively into drive pedals and may just stick with the Mojo. Also may get a Plethora X1 when they come out properly to cover various modulation effects - I have a TC amp head with toneprint and quite like it. Also the Markbass Mini Boost is great, I’ve got a couple of places where I’m playing slap and needed a boost in volume, but the VPF also gives an EQ boost to low & high end (possibly a mid scoop I dunno, it sounds like it but may be just boosting Low & Hi) but a volume boost and the EQ shaping together run in the FX loop of the Plex is awesome for slap solo type stuff, I’ve never had a bad Markbass pedal TBF they’re always really good My GAS has mostly been bass related but since I got a U.S. Lakland 55/94 my GAS has settled right down… for basses! I decided after new year it was time I properly sorted my pedal board out, but I fear I have got the pedal bug now and fear I’m on a slippery slope, I’m finding myself in the Effects forum more and more…! 😆 Edited Saturday at 00:30 by Paddy777 4 Quote

I’m missing mine dearly. This year looking to add a 5 string in my rotation. I’m mostly using a Pbass now but I realized how much I need a 5 string especially on function/pub gigs 1 Quote

This is mostly for function/tribute type stuff - I will use a 4 if there’s call for it, but I’m much more comfortable on a 5, and play it as much to use frets 5-12 on the B as I do the lower notes really. This is my 55/94, it’s killed my GAS for a lot of basses tbh 👇 4 Quote

It’s not an extra sting it’s fundamental and opens up so much in the same position on the neck. But you knows that 😀 Edited Saturday at 20:22 by krispn 1 Quote

But you knows that 😀 100% - the low A (for example) sounds much thicker on the B string, and I can go straight across the fretboard in two octaves quickly whilst barely having to move my hand, so essentially it’s great for me as it’s less work 😂 but it’s absolutely why I prefer a 5, yeh I do often go for a low D or Eb but really it’s being able to play the root notes from the B and then play patterns easier from there. I’ve played so much 5st now I’m at a point where I wonder if I should just knock 4 strings on the head altogether, I virtually never pick one up for a gig but when I’ve not owned a 4 I’ve always felt like I should have one Quote
AinsleyWalker Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) After a lot of recent rejigging, this is my current 'at home'/having fun/do-it-all board. I would probably use less than half of this in most situations. Bass > Peterson Strobostomp tuner > Origin Cali 76 Compact Bass compressor > Boss OC2 > Future Impact synth > Mu-Tron envelope filter > Hamstead Subspace drive > Blue Colander Tremond distortion > Moog MF Chorus > Chase Bliss Dark World reverb > Micro Thumpinator hi-pass (under board) > Aguilar Tone Hammer preamp > Edited 10 hours ago by AinsleyWalker 4 Quote
