BassAgent
I've owned this gem for about 15 years now: It sounds pretty decent. About 12 years ago I installed new pickups that were sold to me as Fender CS60 pickups, but two years ago I found out they're not. They're not even Fenders. I don't know what they are but they're ok. However, I think the bass can do a lot better. There's too much hum when using only the bridge pickup and I miss depth and low end in my sound. Now as a Jaco fan (as one is supposed to be) I have that sound in my head, but with a little bit more low end. The question is: except for copper foil in the cavities, which pickups to choose? The competitors: -Aguilar 4J-60 -Fender CS60 -Seymour Duncan Antiquity -Aero Type 3 -Lindy Fralin Or anything I've missed...? Oh, and a double check: the neck pickup on my bass is 92 mm, bridge 94. Does that correspond with standard Fender dimensions? I've read somewhere that the MIM basses can have different sizes (neck and bridge pickup same width and so on).

BassAgent
Oh cool! I didn't know them. But what would be the difference between these and the somewhat cheaper ánd better available Antiquity pickups? I thought those were wound to the specs Seymour rewound Jaco's pickups... deksawyer
You may also want to consider an active preamp such as a John East or an Audere for the J bass. Both will allow you to dial in certain frequencies, esp. the mids.... D.
