spiltmilk_2000
So, I fitted a set of bareknuckle pickups on my jazz and the neck is rwrp. With both pickup volumes on full there is a significant drop off in bass frequencies and output and I'm assuming this is due to phase cancellation. If I roll one of the volumes down a little the output and bass frequencies return. So, is this how they are supposed to be? Are they designed to give the option of an out of phase tone or should I just swap the wires around on one of the pickups (this solves the issue). I know some guitarists like an out of phase tone but it doesn't really seem to work for bass so I wondered if I've done something wrong? Thanks for any advice! Lo-E
You may have the wires reversed on one of the pickups. It's normal on a J-bass for there to be a drop in mids when both p'ups are at full, but there shouldn't be a substantial drop in either bass or volume. Try swapping wires as you said and all should be well.
luckydog
As lo-E says. If reversing the wiring on one PU then results in poor hum rejection, you don't have a rwrp pair and should return them for a pair. Sometimes it's not obvious there's no easy way to tell. HTH! LITTLEWING
Try swapping the wires over on one pup, for instance white (hot) to pot casing and black (neg) to pot live. I put a new jazz bridge pup in my PJ in normal config and both pups on full sounded like a cheap combo in a dustbin with the lid on in a tunnel. Swap 'em and wear an instant very broad smile. spiltmilk_2000
So swapped the wires on one pickup and to my ears they now sound better and I guess that's what matters ;-) Thanks guys!
