fluffo Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I've been thinking about buying a cheap Jazz bass, I have to real high end basses but fancy a Jazz. So far I've come up with Squire VM/Affinity ect basses, LTD J204/214 the Sire Marcus Miller and The Revelation Jazz bass. Lets hear your opinions and experiences, fire away. Quote
bubinga5 Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Second hand Squire vintage without doubt. They are good standard but put some Dmarzio ultra jazz pickups in it and your more than sorted. Quote

Very nice, well put together basses. Edit - Actually there's two.... Edited July 31, 2016 by gjones Quote

discreet Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 (edited) Sire V7 Marcus Miller. You won't get better Jazz bang for your buck - IMHO. dannybuoy Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Squier Classic Vibe, Sire V7, Sandberg Electra TT4. Quote
Marvin Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Sire V7, no doubt. Punches well above its price. I've a Squier VM P bass but my Sire V7 Jazz is a noticeably better quality instrument. Quote
fluffo Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 I was thinking sire. not sure I want all the active circuits Quote
timhiggins Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 (edited) Another Sire vote for me although if i was going for passive i love the squier vm or vibes also i tried a vintage jazz the other day and it was great less than 250 as well Edited July 31, 2016 by timhiggins Quote
Marvin Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I never play my Sire V7 in active mode, always passive with volume and tone wide open and both pickups. Quote
timhiggins Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 (edited) Me too mostly and i love it but i think the fender type passive jazz sound is is a lot closer to the Squier's and the vintage i tried, the sire for me is punchier and has more mids ,i also like the fact you can still use tone control on passive setting Edited July 31, 2016 by timhiggins Quote
Wilco Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Another shout for the Sire MM v7. I hope to buying another when funds allow. Quote
FuNkShUi Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 I cant comment on the Sire, but the Silver Series bass i had was a cracker Quote
karlfer Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 The one Psychoandy has just put up for sale Mark Quote
thegummy Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 The Classic Vibe is not in his price range Quote
thegummy Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 If you add 39 quid to your budget you could get a Schecter from Andertons that has Grover tuners, large chunky bridge, Tusq nut, good strong pickups and made in one of the most reputable factories in the world. Quote
Jono Bolton Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 (edited)
The Classic Vibe is not in his price range
There's a Squier CV in Inca Silver for sale on here for £199. For me it's an absolute no-brainer; if I could get on with Jazzes I'd have had it. My two Squiers are excellent instruments and incredibly well made so I'd have no qualms buying it blind. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/289529-fender-squier-classic-vibe-jazz-mint/page__pid__3106246#entry3106246 Additionally, I've tried the VM Squiers and while they're nice, the difference in quality between them and the CVs is night and day. kodiakblair Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 @Raslee I think you're in for a treat this week. Have 4 and half of them myself ( Half is project unfinished ). 2 With the Ferrites and 2 with the soapbars. 1 of each pair strung with flats, the other with rounds. Truly great basses Quote
