Bassy
Hi, can anyone recommend a 5 string set won't feel like i'm playing cheesewire when i'm using a 35" scale Shuker. I like to be able to easily bend the D,G strings, but some strings have a tighter tension than others? Any ideas? Cheers.
6stringbassist
DR Sunbeams have a very low tension, or try the Hi-beams, avoid the Lo-riders they have a hex core and are stiffer to start with. Status strings are nice too, but again the round core ones have slightly less tension than the hex core. I'm currently using a hybrid DR Hellborg set, they're really nice, and designed for Jonas Hellborgs playing......hybrid because they don't do a 6 string set, so I'm using a B and C from a set of nickel Lo-riders. Hamster
A big +1 on DR strings. Sunbeams, Fatbeams and Hi-Beams are all really supple and a pleasure to play with.

My theory is that the Sunnys and Fatsos (definitely) and the Hi-beams (possibly) use round cores, which are more compliant in every plane of motion than their more common Hex-cored counterparts. Not cheap, but they feel good, sound good, play fast and last well.
