thepurpleblob
Mmm.... Good bits Reasonable ear, get near enough most of the time Enough technique to fool most audiences Good rhythm - used to be a percussionist (not a drummer - oh no) Ok on a fretless as long as I stay at the thin end of the neck Reasonable theory knowledge and getting better Can read the dots at a push Good gear, decent car Loads of practical gigging experience Can solder and fix stuff Always turn up on time Don't drink and can drive a van Reasonably attractive wife to distract from my ugliness Bad bits Not enough technique to fool discerning audiences Can only play fingerstyle. Picks, Slap etc. a mystery Bit stiff and sloppy - cramp up with tricky/repetitive stuff (old age) Old, fat, baldy - your band will not look sexy with me in it. Strictly covers. Soloing and improv completely unknown Can't/Won't sing Can't/Won't dance Don't understand EQ at all - it makes a noise, it'll do!! Can't play guitar - I have no idea what chords you are playing, sorry!! Spectacularly bad memory - if I learned it last week I've forgotten it this Edited October 10, 2008 by thepurpleblob

Kev
difficult for me to say what is good about myself rather than the easier what is bad! but meh.. Good (i guess): Can learn songs by ear pretty quick at learning new lines have quite a decent memory play decent agressive slap bass (think flea rather than wooten) have a reasonably flexible left hand for fretting good at keeping time (bit of a must really!) have the pleasure of having a truly awesome, special bass completly self taught, and consequently have my own technique Bad (easy really): terrible with a pick, unless its slow downstrokes can't tap can't read music well at all have fairly limited theory knowledge don't know many techniques, kinda limited to fingering and basic slapping struggle with chords can only finger with 2 fingers (i really wanna be able to use 3) can go from being really tight one day to being sloppy as a beer and curry sh*t the next the worst: not in a band due to uni overcrowding my social time Edited October 10, 2008 by BassManKev
Kirky
Good Good timing Read well (though I've never had to playing bass) Good ear Well behaved Bad Too old, ugly, fat and bald to fit into the bands I would like to join

martthebass
Good bits. After 20 odd years of playing I can just about hold a tune. Bad Bits. Tinnitus Heavy gear Generally ignored by non-bass playing musicians

4000
Good I enjoy playing the music we play I like to keep it simple I can flash it up when I want but prefer not to I concentrate to kick with the drummer I'm not afraid to look at my fretboard when playing!! I have nice basses I have a lovely rig I look after my gear I pick things up very easily I have my own recording studio (sort of... see below) Bad I don't practice enough I don't move very much when playing I look like a moody git when playing I'm self critical when I make a mistake I cant fit all my gear in my car, so have to use the wife's! I haven't built my studio yet (but I've got all the gear!!) I can only play with a pick (preferred... I do finger but prefer the pick tone) I have a knackered thumb joint which gets very tired when I play. I am going bald and what's left is going grey!!
Crikey. Hey, is that actually me under all that foam, or were we just separated at birth??????
Delberthot
Good bits: I've always been able to pick up a tune really quickly I can play most songs in any key After 20 years I have the best gear for my needs My gear is lightweight I wear earplugs at every gig I can slap & use a pick if I need to I'm still getting better all the time I'm always at a gig in plenty of time I maintain all my own gear I can sight read I got lightweight gear before I did my back in or got too old to lift it I can get all my gear in and out of a gig in 2 trips - 2 basses, gig bag, cabinet, amp & stands I'm good at improvising thanks in part to being in a dixieland jazz band when I was 17 where all you got were the chords, no dots I'm a typical bass player in that I carry a spare of everything: speaker cables, stands, straps etc I'm confident I'll try playing anything Bad bits: I never practice Since I began wearing earplugs I think I play louder than I used to I don't spend time sorting out the settings on my effects so don't use them as much as I would like to I react to the crowd - If they're being dull and uninterested then so am I; If they're up for a good night then so am I I would rather pack up and go home and donate my gig fee to charity than play 'sit down' by James. If that's such a bad thing Edited October 13, 2008 by Delberthot
M4L666
GOOD Good at playing metal or rock. If left to my own devices, the solo-type stuff just flows like I'm a guitarist. Mostly cheerful. Decent singer. Good at set up. Can't slap to save my life. Good at tapping (well better than the average indie bassist). Can sound interesting... with decent theory, but mainly just knowing chord patterns. BAD Only good at playing metal or rock. Not enough right hand speed to do fast solo-type stuff. Get moody if I play badly. Good at setting up wrong and having to correct it twice. Can't slap to save my life. Limited musical taste ("So when does the heavy bit kick in?"). Can't read bass clef. Dante
Good. - Can play fast and accurately. - Can sing. - Always looking to improve my sound and technique. - Always willing to work. - I love findong new things and experimenting. - I'll try playing anything. - I can play Guitar. - Passionate about what I play. - Good sense of Timing. - I love writing weird tunes that not everyone in my band likes. - I play for the song and not to fulfil any expectations of anyone. Bad - Get frustrated easy. - Not always the easiest to work with. - I get lost in trying to get better and sometimes need grounding. - budget restraints mean I have to save for kit. - I over write songs. - I never think I'm progressing. - Can't read music. - Can't slap (but i'm trying) - want to much kit.
