Cab driver advice

I've been on the hunt for a MB NY 604 to match my other one, but it seems to be a fruitless search, and i refuse to buy a new one.

I was thinking that, because i have a spare empty cab here ( a Peavey BW 1x15 to be precise ) , i could commandeer that old cab and with some judicious chopping about, re-screwing / baffling , and with a bit of luck ( £4.50 from Screwfix ) and a planet sized lump of magic, could turn it into a 4 X 6, approaching the size of my MB NY 604

Faital Pro's are the weapons of choice, but TS specs always baffle ( sic ) me. If the musketeers could run their beedy eye of the TS and post what they think of them, i might go for it, though its a last resort as i hate DIY more than i hate Chris Evans

Faital 6PR150 ( NEO )

Faital 6PR110 ( Ferrite )

Faital FE200 ( Ferrite )

W6N8-120 ( NEO )

6PR122 ( NEO )

Theres is one more 6" Faital on their list but since it weighs over 12 LBS on its own, hence 4 wading in at over 48 LBS before they've even been hurled into a box, they're out of the question

Ta in advance !

Given that you contemplating spending north of £300 on the drivers I would have thought youd be much better off spending the money on say a phil jones c4 (£334 from thomman).

Otherwise, considering you dont know anything about cab design and this isn't a labour of love theres a good probability of you investing a large amount of money, time and aggravation in something which sounds rubbish and has little or no resale value.

If you're wanting to replicate the NY 604, wouldn't it make sense to use the same brand of drivers & get as close a spec as possible?
Markbass use B&C drivers (though I believe they now have their own custom made drivers, possibly still by B&C?).

It would make more sense though to flog the NY604 & get a cab or two that has what you're looking for already (sound, decibels, looks, etc).

Good points made and having thought about those points over night, maybe i'll just hang out for another MB 604, which would be a lot less grief, i guess

Just out of interest, i found 4 of the Faital Pro 6PR150 NEO's for £262

I haven't tried modelling it, but a quick glance at the 6PR150 spec sheet suggests it wouldn't be an obvious choice for bass guitar. The resonance is very high at 100Hz and the Xmax is quite small at 2.65mm, so I'd be surprised if you could get useful low end out of them. The only Faital 6" that looks like it might be somewhat viable for bass guitar would be the 6FE100, but there are probably better ways to get where you need to go than with multiple 6"s.

FWIW, this review says that they used the B&C 6NDL38. http://epublish.panaprint.com/article/Markbass+F500+Bass+Head+And+New+York+604+Bass+Cabinet/617038/0/article.html

They would appear to still exist, but you're getting close to £400 for four of them. https://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=BAC6NDL38

Wow - good searching and a very interesting read

Only 92db too, but as you say, way too expensive.

I'm definately leaning towards the idea of just waiting for another 604 to pop up. At the moment, my own 604 is partnered with my MB NY 122 2x12, but i prefer the dimensions / layout of the 604 and if i find the another 604, i'll dispose of the NY 122

Sorry FB , should have said , give mark a ring

It's just under the basses in the " Coming Soon " ( stop sniggering at the back )

Ie , scroll down to under the pics !

Was idling away mulling and cogitating over Limelight's and saw it

Played through one for a very short time and liked it plus lightish compact and bijou

Hope you can sort something out

Cheers

Gary

Cheers Gary - never thought of looking there. Its more expensive than my last 604 purchase which was a private sale on here, but he's a business and has overheads, so i guess its par for the course

I'll ring him and see if he's up for haggling though :)

Thanks bud
