I guess one of the undisputed giants of bass accompanying one of the greatest poets that ever picked up a guitar is not for everyone...

The rest of the track I like, it's just the bass I don't get. I usually like a collision of styles, but it really doesn't sound like the bass part is even accompanying the same song ...

Yes, brilliant.

I presume you have heard the live Orchestral album ?
Vince Mendoza and his terrific arrangements.
Personally I only stumbled upon it last year. Not sure how I missed it to be honest.
Sublime version of 'Hejira'

Well, in my own humble opinion, it doesn't get any better than this on this planet, 'between the forceps and the stone'. The very definition of 'sublime'. There are, all through JM's long and fruitful career, so many pure gems; several of them are graced with a contribution from JP. Look, it's no exaggeration to say that it's even better than the Grateful Dead, and even Schubert..! There, I've said it..!

I share your culinary tastes, but never tire of the 9th, personally. S'all good, really. B)

Jaco was not actually that technical; he was funky as fcuk. Of course there were great technical tracks that stretched the envelope but, in the main, he grooved. I know technical players. Jaco was much more than that.

Agreed. This grooves like hell in places.

I listened to the 9th symphony this morning. I can't knock it but I think I preferred the Trout quintet mainly because of the size of the ensemble. More like a decent band with each instrument distinct in a way that only soloists can achieve in an orchestra. I learned something about my taste in music today.

Cheers.
